Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The Configuration Supervisor would be responsible for the configuration team’s day to day supervision and thruput goals.  This position would be 100% supervisor of contract employees.   The contract employees under supervision would have the responsibility to provide FlexNAP configuration and design services to various Corning customers within the guidelines of established programs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • The FTTH Design Engineer/ Configurator Supervisor will work directly with Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, and other commercial functions to support external customers with the design and configuration of FlexNAP passive optical networks and the generation of associated bills of material (BOMs) for Fiber-to-the-Home networks
  • The individual must posses an understanding of FlexNAP products and be familiar with the configuration of the cables
  • The individual would be responsible for weekly time, vacation approval, and attendance, and other supervisory functions in the fieldglass system
  • The individual would be responsible for posting positions for technicians, interviews with candidates and working through the systems to onboard techs
  • The individual would be responsible for tracking team metrics for productivity and developing technicians’ skillsets based on output metrics and work on an individual basis with each technician
  • The individual would work with Magnit to provide feedback any technician not meeting minimum requirements and would be responsible to work with Magnit or the vendor should any technician need to be replaced due to performance or attrition. The supervisor would also be responsible for staffing based on forecasts from the different programs
  • The individual would provide and or set up necessary training and assist with various technical issues/ questions and work with other systems engineers for solutions if need be
  • Track value proposition of flexNAP configuration including the cost of the group, and profit margin on paid configuration services
  • Track metrics for the group and report those as needed to various commercial groups
  • Leverage commercial sensitivity to achieve technically sound customer deliverables while enhancing business relationships
  • The individual will be required to utilize sound problem solving abilities to achieve desired objectives
  • Communication with the appropriate internal commercial personnel must be maintained throughout the design process in order to properly manage commercial impact

 

Required Education

  • 4 year degree in an Engineering discipline. Mechanical or Electrical preferred
  • Proficiency with current desktop computer software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook
  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines, operate in a fast-paced multi-task environment, and effectively manage competing time requirements
  • Fundamental analytical problem solving ability
  • Self-motivation and the ability to succeed under minimal supervision, often with vague and nebulous information and direction
  • Ability to quickly assimilate technical and commercial information from multiple sources and consolidate this into a focused technical position
  • 100% proficiency in English, written and verbal

Desired Experiences

  • 2 years or more of experience in the Telecommunications industry
  • Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD)
  • Product development or manufacturing experience a plus
  • Knowledge of basic optical fiber theory
  • Knowledge of Passive Optical Network products (FTTx preferred) and how they are utilized to create network design solutions
  • Field experience with fiber optic products (FTTx preferred) and processes such as cable handling, fiber splicing, connectorization, and testing
  • Experience working in a commercial organization (Sales, Marketing, etc.)

The range for this position is $86,761.00 - $119,297.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
