Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

To be the Technical Program leader with responsibility of all of the processes, systems, and tools in a commercially facing Carrier Networks Engineering Services team.  The role will be an individual contributor role with periodic team leadership responsibilities for multiple projects on an ongoing basis and responsibilities for the managing stakeholder’s expectations, project timeline, and deliverables of the team.  The teams would be tasked with highly technical projects of various limited durations.  In addition to leading projects the Technical Program Leader could be involved in much longer multiyear strategic projects led by other groups within Corning or firms in collaboration with Corning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of products and product suites to develop and or optimize software related solutions to use to support engineering services in customer’s needs
  • Work with both the Carrier Systems Engineering and Outside plant engineering groups on a daily/ weekly basis to provide guidance with an objective of meeting build schedules
  • Position could work cross functionally with applications engineering, PLM, development and or other functional groups to come up with new solutions for design tools and programs incorporating both existing technologies and new and potentially innovative ideas
  • Travel either alone or in accompaniment of Sales and other commercial representatives on customer visits to present solutions, provide training, and assist with various technical issues though rare could be part of the responsibilities
  • Gives presentations to varying size audiences on solutions, training, and best practices
  • Work with outside companies in efforts to help them design, add to, or modify use cases of corning products in an effort to more efficiently use Corning products and keep Corning standardized in their systems
  • Utilize sound problem solving abilities to achieve desired objectives. Multiple design iterations are likely necessary in some cases to develop optimal solutions to satisfy customer requirements both internal and external as needed. Although there is an abstract nature to some design scenarios the candidate is expected to lead initial conversations in requirements definitions to minimize this phenomenon as much as possible and achieve desired results
  • Candidate would be required in many cases to look at multiple different industry related processes for finding the best tools/ solutions in order to meet internal engineering needs.   Balancing both financial and strategic objectives from internal stakeholders as well as time constraints would be critical to meet the desired objective

 

Required Education

  • 4-year degree in an Engineering discipline. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil preferred
  • Experience in project management to achieve objectives on time and within budget
  • Experience in leading teams
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience setting up workflows and process steps to lead teams to success in objectives
  • Proficiency with current desktop computer software including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook
  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines, operate in a fast-paced multi-task environment, and effectively manage competing time requirements

 

Desired Experiences

  • 5-10 years or more of experience working in a technical environment
  • Experience in both AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS systems a plus
  • Experience working in a cross functional organization

The range for this position is $97,634.00 - $134,247.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
