Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
The Event Specialist is responsible for assisting with planning, coordinating, and executing Corning Optical Communications’ global events. This position will be responsible for internal and external events. This position ensures the delivery of event experiences that meet or exceed all event goals, exceed the expectations of event attendees, and fulfill the objectives of all events within budget.
Required Education and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3 year of special event planning experience
Required Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with senior management level executives comfortably and professionally
- Proficiency with online event registration and management tools (CVENT a plus)
- Organizational skills with the ability to deftly manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team environment with quickly shifting priorities
- A meticulous attention to detail and commitment to customer service
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Assist with organizing events including development of Request for Proposals (RFPs), budgeting, handling contracting, housing for attendees, meeting specifications (e.g., menu planning, logistics, registration, audio visual, space assignments, signage, etc.).
- Provide on-site support by assisting with all arranged details of each program (e.g., attend pre-con, advance all functions, verify room set-ups, coordinate special events, ground transfers, VIP needs, meeting materials).
- Assist with conducting site research, attend site inspections with manager of meetings & events, and assist with recommendations for event venues as needed. Serve as point of contact for contracted venues.
- Develop and maintain event timelines, event budgets, and savings analysis. Prepare reports and conduct analyses relating to the planning, objectives, and effectiveness of event operations as needed.
- Responsible for updating project work plans, SharePoint documentation and meeting notes
- Responsible for the design and execution of event surveys and other tools to measure the success of the event programming and logistics.

- Certified Meeting Professional designation
Travel Requirements:
20% travel, to include occasional weekends.
