Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role Purpose

  • Learn how to support both internal and external customers, support a field project, take training classes, and interact with multiple disciplines within the organization.
  • Complete Level 1 of our 5-phase training program for Field Engineers.
  • Own a project that will support a critical business function within Engineering Services.
  • Learn to splice, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic networks.
  • Conduct product evaluations on Corning products.
  • Contribute to process improvement opportunities as they are presented.
  • Present your final summer project to the necessary team leads and prepare to effectively hand over

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college engineering program, preferably with 2-3 years completed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to influence decision-making.
  • An effective communicator through presentations, written, and verbal messages.
  • Candidate should possess sound mechanical intuition and PC computer literacy.
  • Fluent Language Skills in English both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks effectively in an actively changing environment.
  • Results oriented with a high commitment level to task completion.
  • Work effectively as both an individual performer and a team player.
  • Must be detailed oriented and conscientious.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Proactive, demonstrated ability to take the lead and influence the outcome.
  • Eager to take on additional responsibilities outside normal scope of position.
  • Ability to listen, make wise decisions and act with little direction.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work schedule and duties.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Technical writing ability, with emphasis on effective presentation of detailed concepts.
  • Knowledge of construction and project planning procedures
  • Some related work experience and/or military background in telecommunications.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with peers and customers that earns their trust and respect.
  • Proficient at conflict management, creating “win – win” solutions.

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
