Scope of Position:

This position leads the Global COC monthly and quarterly closing and reporting cycles and oversees financial support of COC systems – specifically SAP. The role entails mobilizing staff, shared services, and the COC network of controllers to ensure execution of a timely close and production of accurate financials. The role also oversees financial systems resources and provides leadership and direction on projects, process improvements, and issue resolution. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of financial statements, managerial and statutory accounting, financial processes, and financial systems. An ability to lead teams, drive projects, and develop collaborative partnerships across the finance function is crucial.

Other Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Leads the COC Finance Key Strategic Initiative of improving our closing process with the objectives to accelerate initial submissions, reduce statistical account correction process time, eliminate intercompany out-of-balances, tighten controls, and consistently close on time.
  • Ensures proper review of financial reports and supporting documentation and has oversight for legal entity tasks including account reconciliations and SEC reporting support.
  • Actively partners with Corning Shared Services (CSS) to execute global close process and to identify and address opportunities, transfer work and train CSS on execution, and continuously improve processes that affect COC.
  • Directs the maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for closing, reconciliation/task items and other general departmental accounting tasks.
  • Oversees compliance activities for COC including annual audit of the Division-Level Monitoring Controls processes, and works with the compliance team to resolve issues and implement standard controls.
  • Acts as a liaison to Corning Technical Accounting Services, providing recommendations on development of accounting policies for COC and driving implementation of policy across COC Finance.
  • Manages resource deployment on financial systems projects such as SAP 4 HANA development, integration of M&A locations, system enhancements, and other projects.
  • Collaborates with CSS and IT to maintain chart of accounts and mapping to our systems. Works with Corning HQ finance and accounting teams to build, maintain, and periodically audit Divisional templates.
  • Leads a team of employees by providing direction, oversight, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • May support other ad hoc projects in various leadership or support capacities. May work across multiple divisions to develop best practice processes.
  • May drive ad hoc financial analysis, utilizing SAP and Peoplesoft.
  • May initiate &/or participate in cross-functional communication and projects.

Required Education:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance required; Masters in Accounting or MBA preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Required minimum 7 Years of work experience.

Required Skills:

  • Highly developed managerial and statutory accounting knowledge.
  • Experience setting strategy for process improvement initiatives, developing procedures for implementation, and executing with success
  • Experience identifying, managing, and resolving high-risk issues to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and process efficiency.
  • Experience leading teams across geographic and organizational lines.
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships in the finance function
  • System skills and experience with SAP
  • Ability to manage staff, set and ensure delivery of objectives, and develop talent.
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Peoplesoft
  • Firm understanding of cost accounting, transfer pricing, intercompany impacts, and transaction flows.
  • Experience providing accounting support to M&A transactions and processes
