Scope of Position:

This position has responsibility at a Global COC level for the monthly and quarterly closing and reporting cycles, the audit and compliance activities, and financial systems – specifically SAP. The role entails mobilizing various resources – staff, shared services, and the COC network of controllers – to ensure execution of a timely close and accurate financials. The role manages compliance activities for COC including acting as the audit liaison, overseeing division-level controls and certifications, and supporting various audits conducted throughout COC. The role also oversees financial systems resources and provides leadership and direction on projects, process improvements, and issue resolution. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of financial statements, managerial and statutory accounting, financial compliance processes, and financial systems. An ability to lead teams, drive projects, and develop collaborative partnerships across the finance function is crucial.

Other Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Leads identification and implementation of process improvements to the closing cycle with the aims to reduce cycle time, improve execution, and continuously tighten controls.
  • Ensures proper review of financial reports and supporting documentation and has oversight for legal entity tasks including account reconciliations. Directs the maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for closing, reconciliation/task items and other general departmental accounting tasks.
  • Manages compliance activities for COC including acting as the primary audit liaison, managing the Division-Level Monitoring Controls process, providing coaching and direction on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, managing Fixed Asset Audits, managing Health-Check audits and internal control audits, and maintaining Inter-Company policy compliance.
  • Acts as direct liaison to the Corning Technical Accounting group, providing recommendations on development of accounting policies for COC and driving implementation of policy across COC Finance. Ensures compliance with internal controls, GAAP and Corporate Financial policies.
  • Manages and leads ongoing and new projects for COC finance such as Inter-Company Out-of-Balance remediation, Statistical-to-Real Account correction and training, and integration of acquisitions to COC Systems.
  • Provides leadership on M&A integration efforts to ensure smooth incorporation into the COC closing and control processes. Works directly with or as part of M&A integration teams to build and implement reporting plan.
  • Partners with Corning Shared Services (CSS) to identify and address opportunities, transfer work and train CSS on execution, and continuously improve processes that affect COC.
  • Collaborates with CSS and IT to maintain chart of accounts and mapping to our systems. Works with Corning HQ finance and accounting teams to build, maintain, and periodically audit Divisional templates.
  • Leads a team of employees by providing direction, oversight, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • May support other ad hoc projects in various leadership or support capacities. May work across multiple divisions to develop best practice processes.
  • May drive ad hoc financial analysis, utilizing SAP, Peoplesoft, Khalix.
  • May initiate &/or participate in cross-functional communication and projects.

Required Education:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance required; Masters in Accounting or MBA preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Required minimum 7 Years of work experience.

Required Skills:

  • Highly developed managerial and statutory accounting knowledge.
  • Extensive experience identifying, managing, and resolving high-risk issues to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and process efficiency.
  • Ability to manage staff, set and ensure delivery of objectives, and develop talent.
  • Experience leading teams across geographic and organizational lines.
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships in the finance function
  • Experience setting strategy for process improvement initiatives and developing procedures for implementation
  • System skills and experience with SAP
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.
  • Experience providing accounting support to M&A transactions and processes

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Peoplesoft & Khalix
  • Firm understanding of cost accounting, transfer pricing, intercompany impacts, and transaction flows.
