Data, automation and advanced analytics technologies are drastically transforming industrial manufacturers beyond point process automation to systemic, highly contextualized and data driven systems. Corning is building the foundational digital infrastructure for these company-wide efforts, and are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented leaders that will drive foundation data management initiatives that are crucial to these efforts

Overview: The Data Management leader will work with our business, operations, governance and technology teams to build out an enterprise-wide data management technology strategy. The candidate will collaborate with business and technology in building out current and future data management states, business process, system interfaces, governance and technology platforms needed to enable a single source of truth for critical master data such as Supplier, Customer, and Materials. This role will lead and oversee a team responsible for providing master data management, data quality, data governance, and data migration capabilities across Corning’s application landscape. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring alignment to an enterprise data governance framework and for operationalizing Master Data Management, Data Quality, and other data policies, standards and practices across IT and Business/Functional area levels, to achieve the required level of governance, consistency, quality of data needed to meet overall business needs. This role will be a key position that supports Corning’s multi-year ERP transformation which has data management as a critical component.

Primary Role & Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic roadmap and operational framework for Enterprise Master Data Management and Master Data Governance, in collaboration with key functional partners
  • Lead all aspects of and standardize data structures, attributes, taxonomies and needed governance for master data across multiple domains, systems, operating units, in agreement with Corning long-term business applications strategy
  • Develop, test, and deploy Master Data Governance, Data Services, and Information Steward applications in alignment with ERP Transformation strategy
  • Develop, test, and deploy data migration services and offerings for profiling, cleansing, rationalizing and loading legacy ERP data into SAP S/4 and MDG.
  • Design and architect integrations between MDM systems and other systems using standard connectors, publish-subscribe, and other mechanisms
  • Operate an effective Governance Model with the right balance of Structure, Standardization, Speed, Agility, and Business requirements to build a foundation for developing mature MDM/MDG practices and long-term organizational capabilities
  • Evaluate and implement new data management technologies and software engineering tools (automation projects, process improvements, etc.) to improve data quality and health
  • Educate business and operations teams on data stewardship and MDM best practices by providing needed exception reports, analytics, and continuous process improvement recommendations
  • Oversee the documentation and design business process flows for governance and data management • Build out and develop an MDM technical team to support the design, build, test, and operations of master data management capabilities across the company.
  • Provide oversight into data, data systems, and process improvements required to supervise and improve data quality
  • Define key performance indicators for quality and compliance metrics to ensure data related policies and standards are followed and being embraced, and provide a data governance scorecard
  • Acts as a SME to explain all facets of data management, business process, and architecture acting as a liaison between Business Partners and Technology teams
  • Oversee the SAP Data dictionary and support the use of data in SAP OTC, RTR, and PTP processes
  • Partner with integration teams, on the design and oversight of APIs and other data sharing capabilities in collaboration with Transformation Strategy, and short/ long term business needs
  • Implement master data management standards, enforce data governance procedures, and ensure data integrity across multiple platforms
  • Convene data governance teams and operating mechanisms, currently spread out across disparate functions
  • Remove boundaries by encouraging creative thinking and problem solving to build a culture of data quality and health
  • Drive functional accountability by promoting a robust data governance and measurement framework

Education Requirements:  Bachelor of Science in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or appropriate combination of education and experience in crucial duties and responsibilities

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in delivering data management and master data capabilities in a large company environment
  • 7+ years designing, implementing, supporting, and analyzing enterprise scale database solutions that perform extract/transform/load (ETL) operations with internal and external data sources
  • 7+ years of leading an application development team
  • 5+ years of leading cross-functional data governance
  • Solid understanding of master data management, preferably in a manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated experience in defining standard methodologies in areas such as Product and Customer data management, product attribution and taxonomies, metadata management, data quality management, root cause analysis and process design
  • Proven track record and experience of successfully standing up data management teams and solutions, across multiple domains
  • Demonstrable understanding of Product, Supplier, and Customer data, with an emphasis on SAP master data domains, and the needed data structures and taxonomies to support successful end-to-end lifecycle
  • Expertise in 1-2 MDM tools and hands on experience
  • Experience with data quality and management solutions
  • Prior project management experience
  • Strong intuition for business and analytical skills
  • Comfort working in an agile development lifecycle and tools such as Jira Rally, and Trello
  • Experience working with 3rd party system integrators or implementation partners
  • Solid understanding of data, databases, data tools (e.g. SQL) and data processing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP Master Data Governance, Information Stewards, and Data Services
  • Experience working with SAP FI/CO, MM, SD or PM and Master Data.
  • Experience in complex SAP environments supporting multiple components
