The Global Supply Management (GSM) Function is recognized as a critical function for business success.  It delivers the training, tools and opportunities needed to create innovative solutions for the function & the corporation.  GSM has leading edge, effective processes to anticipate and exceed customer requirements.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager (SSM) is a pivotal member of the Industrial Gas Team within the Global Supply Management (GSM) organization. This role is responsible for leading and developing global category strategies for industrial gases including nitrogen, oxygen, helium, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and other atmospheric and specialty gases. With oversight of a global spend of approximately $80-$85M, the SSM plays a critical role in driving cost savings, working capital improvements, and supplier performance through a strategic and innovative approach. This role requires a strategic thinker who can challenge the status quo and bring innovative solutions to the table. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing category strategies, executing sourcing initiatives, managing supplier relationships, and negotiating contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and supply security. The SSM will also oversee forecasting, data analytics, and the integration of global and local market insights to drive informed decision-making. Success in this role demands a balance of creative problem-solving, operational execution and a proactive approach to identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for improvement.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the category Industrial Gas leader globally, and represent Corning as such, including Asia, North America and Europe.
  • Strategically lead, manage or support Industrial Gas sourcing projects as requested with major scope on North America region.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end category performance and supplier management.
  • Act as commercial focal point for relevant commercial counterparty relationship and manage suppliers through Corning's Supplier Relationship Management process.
  • Lead the development of Category Strategy globally.
  • Manage category data ensuring accuracy and timely posting.
  • Manage all utility contracts for compliance.
  • Lead and direct the development of a utilities savings portfolio by working directly with Corning businesses and the Industrial Gas category team.
  • Provide leadership/direction to implement the savings projects and proactively monitor results.
  • Establish professional working relationships with Corning business management leaders, plant managers, plant staffs, facilities managers, GSM managers/buyers and governmental affairs managers.
  • Communicate utility market data trends and regulatory changes proactively to impacted organizations.
  • Provide leadership and management of utility infrastructure installations and contract negotiations for plant expansions and new sites.
  • Develop and maintain proactive professional business relationships with utility executives.

Travel:

  • Approximately 10%-25% to Corning plants and facilities primarily in North America.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday but also including some evening and weekend work.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in procurement for industrial gases sourcing and material transformation applications, combined with strong technical knowledge of gas properties, production processes, distribution systems, and their applications within a high-performance, fast-paced global manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility practices, contract structure as well as knowledge of long-term contracts and management.
  • Demonstrated negotiations, interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills with all levels of the organization globally.
  • Supplier Relationship Management experience.
  • Ability to work independently and within a matrix organization.
  • Fluent in English.

Desired Skills:

  • Rare gases management experience.
  • Global Category management.
  • Knowledge of chilled water, industrial water, and waste water infrastructure.
  • Facility construction and management experience.
  • Excellent organization skills.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization by building rapport and establishing business relationships.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a project team leader and/or participant
  • Capable to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Capable of influencing and leading suppliers and internal customers to desired results in industrial gases where the selection of suppliers is limited.
  • Ability to confront and resolve conflicts.

Education:

  • BS in engineering or business required.
  • MBA is preferred.

The range for this position is $96,534.00 - $132,734.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
