Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Role

Corning Incorporated is seeking a Manufacturing Cost Engineer to join our team in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you will develop cost models, evaluate manufacturing scenarios, and partner with engineering and business teams to deliver cost-effective solutions in a global manufacturing environment. This role combines technical engineering knowledge, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional project coordination to drive financial and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain cost models for manufacturing processes, equipment changes, facility relocations, and technical projects
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, schedules, and cost estimates
  • Provide technical input and project coordination to support the successful execution of engineering initiatives
  • Identify improvement opportunities, solve complex manufacturing and cost challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts

 

Work Location, Hours & Travel Requirements

  • Based in Charlotte, NC
  • Normal Business hours, 40 hours/week
  • Travel Up to 25%

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Accounting/Finance or a related discipline
  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, cost analysis, or technical project leadership
  • Demonstrated experience developing cost models, estimates, or project plans for technical or manufacturing initiatives
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering fundamentals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with cost modeling tools or financial analysis software beyond standard Excel
  • Background in global or multi-site manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with quality management or project management methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, PMP)
  • Experience working in a matrix organization or coordinating across global engineering teams

 

Skills/Competencies

  • Partners effectively across cross-functional and matrix teams to define requirements and deliver shared project outcomes
  • Applies structured analytical approaches to evaluate manufacturing scenarios and translate findings into actionable cost recommendations
  • Communicates technical findings and cost model outputs clearly to engineering peers, project leadership, and business stakeholders

The range for this position is $81,750.00 - $112,406.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
