Role Purpose

The Manufacturing Equipment Integration Solution Architect plays a critical role in integrating manufacturing equipment with enterprise systems such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms. Leveraging expertise in manufacturing processes, Industry 4.0 technologies, and system integration, this role focuses on delivering scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions to improve production efficiency and data flow. The Solution Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and IT, to ensure seamless equipment integration and alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and optimize communication between manufacturing equipment and software platforms using standard protocols such as OPC UA, SECS/GEM, TCP/IP, MQTT, and others.
  • Implement and manage messaging and integration frameworks using ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, and Kafka, as well as other message queueing technologies, to enable asynchronous communication between manufacturing equipment and enterprise systems.
  • Develop solutions for real-time equipment monitoring, data acquisition, and production tracking.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to develop and deploy custom software or configured solutions for equipment integration, incorporating messaging technologies such as ActiveMQ to ensure reliable and scalable data exchange.
  • Participate in all phases of the integration process, including design, software development, testing, installation, production start-up, and training.
  • Create detailed technical documentation, including system specifications, low level designs, deployment guides, and messaging workflows.
  • Partner with manufacturing operations, IT, and other business stakeholders to gather requirements, identify integration challenges, and propose tailored solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, offering technical guidance on equipment integration best practices, process optimization, and message-based communication strategies.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for equipment integration issues during installation and start-up, including issues related to messaging frameworks, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Identify root causes of integration issues and implement corrective actions to address them effectively.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and standards in equipment integration, MES, ERP systems, and messaging frameworks to drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct proof-of-concept (POC) projects to evaluate new tools and technologies for equipment integration.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation, enhanced data flow, and operational efficiency gains.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems integration, software development, and/or manufacturing technology.
  • Proven experience integrating manufacturing equipment with MES and ERP systems.
  • Experience with ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, MQTT, or other message queueing technologies for asynchronous data communication.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies, such as IoT, SCADA, and smart manufacturing tools.
  • Strong understanding of integration technologies, including APIs, middleware, and communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, SECS/GEM, TCP/IP, MQTT).
  • Proficiency in software development using Java and/or C#.
  • Experience working with Factory Automation Systems (e.g. znt PAC), MES platforms, and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Agile project management tools (e.g., GitLab, Jira) and source code control systems.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting tools for manufacturing systems.
  • Familiarity with QMS, WMS, PLM, or other manufacturing systems.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $103,426.00 - $142,211.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
