Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Lead collaborative engagement with Commercial, PLM and Technology in NA to deliver a product strategy roadmap for Tier 1 Carrier and HSDC DCI cable and execute on that roadmap to enable business growth and profitability by timely fulfillment of customer problems/needs
Participate as business commercial technology leader on development programs to bring new advantaged cable products to market.
The candidate will:
- Execute discovery initiatives to identify advantaged product opportunities and develop the techno-commercial business case to move them from Stage1/2 onto the Business Priority List (BPL).
- Serve as subject matter experts in analyzing markets, positioning solutions, articulating value and developing marketing and thought leadership promotional content.
- Act as the technical interface to the commercial teams and the customer for selling value,
- Lead Stage 3 customer insight research (VoC) to support product commercialization and identify product innovation opportunity.
Develop application understanding of Carrier Networks by working with Corning experts and industry partners. Connect Corning products to customer and application needs.
Focus in the Contour Flow for Tier 1 CN and HSDC DCI and development for multiple customers. He will need to work cross functionally with Ken Temple, Varun Singh, commercial, Technology, and EMEA team as these cables will need to be a global specification.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial lead for product development programs.
Objective setting and implementation to drive outside plant cable market development success.
Liaison between commercial (Marketing and Sales), PLM and Technology to execute market development initiatives to develop product strategy that addresses market needs and drives Corning product leadership.
MTD representative for EN in Carrier Network ART teams.
Provide market and product evolution guidance to leadership.
Lead meetings with cross-functional teams to support existing cable projects.

Experiences/Education - Required
B.S. in preferably in Engineering or Physics, but other degrees along with extensive relevant experience in the optical communications industry can be considered
5 years total experience in communications or a related engineering-based industry
5 years’ experience in a commercial role either in sales, product line management, market development or sales engineering support.
Strong communication and networking skills: demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational verticals in commercial, technical, and manufacturing, and to leverage support from knowledge experts through to leadership to define and implement product development strategy.
Strong presentation skills and the ability to convey complex concepts, simply.
Comprehensive knowledge of commercial processes related to product line management, market analysis, commercialization and value proposition development.
Understanding/awareness of our development process (PPW, MRD, PRD, NPV)
Excellent customer facing skills.
Proven project and people management skills (planning, mobilizing people, driving action, managing progress, measuring performance)
Proven capability to rapidly develop expertise in new areas of engineering focus.
Experiences/Education - Desired
MBA/Masters desired
Extensive knowledge of cable design and production.
Knowledge of network architecture and installation practices in optical cable application spaces; long haul, metro, access and short reach networks (LAN, Data Centers, Consumer).
North America telecommunications industry and market knowledge.

The range for this position is $99,375.00 - $136,641.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
