The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Position Summary:  The Digital Strategy & Capability Manager is responsible for the organization and oversight of the business processes for Emerging Technologies including those used with POVs, patterns and platforms including data tracking, metrics, and reporting.  The role will work with the individual business and functional customers mining for edge driven activities that strategically align with centrally accelerated POVs and working with others on the team to determine new patterns, pattern reuse or platform capabilities that are required for strategic digital transformation.  They will be responsible for identifying strategic digital KPIs, driving pattern reuse and platform capabilities, optimizing processes and developing new ones that measure Corning’s digital transformation.  They will facilitate the creation of the Digital Champions Council and support the patterns and platform teams in the disciplined application of agile tools methodologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes a broad network across Corning businesses and functions that enables a thorough understanding the business strategies, operating objectives, business capabilities, product & financial strategies and technology imperatives to enhance value and business outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Digital PMO Manager to define clear success metrics and strategic KPIs to measure Corning’s digital transformation status across the businesses and functions
  • Extensive collaboration with other IT Delivery Teams to ensure optimized and lean processes as well as leading edge digital capabilities are leveraged by the ET organization.
  • Manage the mining and intake of new proof of value (POVs) aligning to the criteria defined and agreed upon by the Digital Operating Committee
  • Lead the data tracking, metrics, and reporting for POVs, platforms and patterns.
  • Drive the development and communication of a scaling playbook and enabling processes for completed POVs in partnership with the Value Acceleration team to all businesses and functions.
  • Assist with internal and external communication and the subsequent campaign, improving transparency, and radiating information across the enterprise
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of the required Emerging Technology business processes including but not limited to black book, green book, annual operational performance, team’s personal objective setting and tracking, etc
  • Coordinate regular update reviews for ET leadership of the ET business processes, as well as working with the to showcase POVs, patterns and platforms. 
  • Challenge the status quo to provoke new thinking through the application of digital and data technologies and capabilities.
  • Highlight collaboration opportunities with the IT teams to address all points of integration
  • Other duties as assigned


Essential Functions:

  • Scale playbook and process ownership
  • Forecast pattern and platform requirements with input from the businesses and functions
  • Pattern and platform agile methodology discipline


Minimum Requirements:

  • Seven to 10 years of diverse roles and increasing leadership responsibilities across major projects and programs.
  • Experience as a leader of PPM or PMO that included agile projects. 
  • Experience developing business processes.
  • Experience with Digital Transformation and customer experience improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing "upward" among senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with diverse teams and across a matrixed organization.
  • Strong experience with Agile projects and applying agile methodologies
  • Strong sense of urgency in delivering results.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team which may work across distance, cultures, and time zones, in a matrix with multiple reporting lines, and may extend outside the K-C organization including suppliers, partners, and customers.


Technical Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years digital technology experience in each of the following areas:

  • Working with an Application software design team leading projects
  • Expert level proficiency with agile toolsets such as Jira and Trello
  • Expert level proficiency with agile work practices in settings involving multiple development teams, cross-functional team members and both local and remote participants with diverse backgrounds and experience

  • Demonstrate a passion for creating order out of chaos
  • Demonstrated curiosity and an ability to learn, unlearn and relearn skills on an ongoing, sustained basis
  • Ability lead in an agile product team environment and balance a diverse set of stakeholder requests
  • Strong technical collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams across the company, defining portfolio attributes, sharing experiences and lessons learned for continual improvement
  • Process-oriented with knowledge of documentation requirements
