Responsibilities: The Human Resource Manager (HRM) for Technology will be the lead HR business partner to the Sr. Vice President, COC Technology and to the Technology leaders for our 2 operating divisions – Optical Connectivity Solutions, Optical Fiber and Cable. The HRM manages a client group and is accountable for ensuring the right number and type of talent at the right time to execute business strategy and achieve desired business results. This work is mainly accomplished through lower level HR generalists. The generalists’ partner with the business to establish and maintain a positive work environment and operate as “One Corning” in support of Corning’s Values. The generalists feed the staffing and development needs of the lower level groups up to the HRM for Technology.

 

The HRM for Technology position is accountable for the successful implementation of global HR business processes within client groups and for ensuring compliance with HR-related legal and regulatory guidelines as well as providing direction to the generalists. The HRM for Technology will also lead several cross-functional projects to design, improve, and execute core HR processes that deliver scalable solutions to employees and managers. Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

  • Provides overall leadership and business partnership to the global OCS, OFC and COC Technology organizations.
  • Provides project leadership and/or team members for key cross functional HR processes critical to the COC HR project portfolio.
  • Ensures COC Technical Promotion Committee stays aligned with the Development & Engineering career ladders of S&T and facilitates the COC technical promotion process.
  • Works closely with HR colleagues to deploy HR initiatives across the business.
  • Acts as a key advisor to the Sr. Vice President, COC Technology to ensure that business goals are met for talent.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Direct generalists as they provide guidance to all employees regarding policy and procedure issues, ensuring compliance with all employment laws.
  • Ensure that clients groups have the process support and training for Performance Management processes (Performance, Development & Review (PD&R), Management By Objectives (MBOs), Learning & Development plans, annual compensation processes (Annual Salary Review, Performance Incentive Plan, Long Term Incentive plan).
  • Partners with COC Recruiting and client groups to identify and implement a compelling employee value proposition that enables the client to attract and retain the number and type of talent required to close talent gaps.
  • Resolves employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner that recognizes employee needs and protects the needs of the company, making key decisions and resolving issues to protect Corning and our employees.
  • Drive HR projects to timely completion & within budget, ensuring the achievement of program-level spending targets.

 

The HRM for Technology must work with the senior technology leaders to direct the alignment of HR programs to meet business goals. While having direct responsibility for a client group, the HRM for Technology also supervises a team that performs the day-to-day activities necessary to achieve success within the organization. This role exercises autonomy and makes key decisions regarding talent. The HRM for Technology is ultimately responsible for leveraging resources across Corning HR (Compensation & Benefits, HR Operations, Talent Management, and Employee Relations Centers of Excellence) to manage the strategic processes that will allow Corning to best utilize our people resources.

Travel Requirements: 25% (domestic & international)

 

Qualifications Required Education (minimum required for consideration): BS Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development or Labor Relations or equivalent qualification/experience

 

Desired:

  • 8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience (generalist/specialist or leadership development / OD) or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources or Labor Relations or MBA
  • Successful track record in the deployment of global HR business processes or programs
  • Greenbelt certification a plus
  • Knowledge of US employment laws and policies
