Position: Project Services needs a Project Manager to join the team at the Corning Charlotte location. Successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative and tactical support on multiple field installations through the engagement of Field Engineers, Technicians, Pioneers, design engineers and contract vendors. Looking for an ambitious individual who enjoys a dynamic fast-paced environment and has proven excellent customer service skills. Candidate must be comfortable traveling to job sites utilizing measuring wheels, range finders, GPS and other measuring devices. This position will involve overnight travel. The ideal candidate must be effective behind a desk and/or on a job site. Position requires between 10%-40% travel.


Required Skills:

• Bachelor of Science Degree from a recognized College or University

• Minimum 2 years in a fiber optic discipline

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Excel & Word

• Contract Management experience

• Strong organizational/communication skills both written and oral

• Strong understanding of Cost & Budget Management

• Result-oriented and responsive; utilizes network (SMEs) Subject Matter Experts and other available resources to facilitate driving tasks to closure

• Flexibility to work overtime as needed

• 100% fluent in English

• Travel up to 40%, domestic and international

• Individual must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years


Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct all business activities in a manner consistent with Corning’s corporate values and Code of Conduct

• Communicate with customer(s) to ensure needs and expectations are met

• Process invoices for customers and/or vendors based on services rendered

• Track and report on material status for projects

• Assist with written estimates for customers based on engineering, labor, and materials

• As needed, visit project sites to evaluate progress and respond to customers’ concerns or questions

• Communicate with site superintendents about delays and any other issues that must be communicated to clients

• Use Project Services administrative systems, procedures and forms necessary to maintain uniform records systems, facilitate order, invoice, and payment processes on a consistent basis

• Create reporting and tracking spreadsheets for projects

• Attend pre/post-installation conference calls

• Support the creation of project meeting agendas

• Attend weekly project meetings as requested

• Development of the overall project schedule

• Ability to review drawings and specifications to become completely familiar with the project and identify long lead times and critical path items.

• Distribute billing reports for customers on a regular basis

• Work with sales, other project managers, and deal management to obtain contracts and purchase orders

• Consult with Business Operations and Finance to ensure reports match the revenue recognition timing within SAP

• Participate in weekly/monthly forecasting meetings to offer input into dates and risk associated with timing of revenue recognition (backlog)

• Update key performance indicators for daily shipping, billing, forecast accuracy, and others as required

• Conduct inventory activities of Corning owned construction materials located at contractor-controlled yards

• Conduct pre-construction site surveys to verify cable routing, identify any obstacles that may result in additional construction costs, and take field measurements.

• Monitor fiber optic plant construction activities to ensure products are being installed within customer guidelines and manufacturer standard recommended procedures (SRP)

• Post-construction walkouts for official project handoff.

• Provide daily reports outlining construction progress

• Troubleshoot potential warranty issues using Corning provided equipment such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), Visual Fault Locators (VFL), and Optical Test Sets.

• Assist in the creation of splice plans, evaluating test data, and other documentation concerns.


Desired Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of Procore project management software

• Experience in the construction industry: aerial pole installation, underground  construction (trenching, plowing, boring)

• Eager to take on additional responsibilities outside normal scope of position

• Demonstrated record of delivering high quality results with a focus on error-free work

• Supply Chain experience in a manufacturing environment

• Knowledge of MS Project, AutoCAD, MS Visio and/or graphical drawing programs is a plus

• Knowledge/experience with field/site walkouts

• Works well alone and in a team environment

• Working knowledge of fiber optic testing procedures

• Ability to handle rapidly changing priorities

• Experience providing hands-on instruction in either a field or classroom environment
