Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

The primary role in the position is to support outside plant fiber optic network design using CAD/ Lumen NDS systems and design processes. Encompasses the use of integrated systems for computer-aided design used for the systematic representation and dimensional specification of mechanical and architectural structures. Prepares drawings or schematics for outside plant systems, equipment, and structures. Utilizes CAD digitizing techniques and skills. Digitizes and edits drawings consisting of components systems, or assemblies. Makes engineering computations and prepares and revises specifications. Creates designs in the Lumen NDS system from provided CAD drawings Requires understanding and application of standard engineering or scientific theories, concepts, principles, and techniques. Requires the ability to develop and resolve solutions to routine technical problems. Able to work on projects and technical assignments are given without detailed instructions. The NDS specialist’s contacts on a daily basis are a mix of immediate project team, other professionals within the company work group, and can routinely involve multiple levels of direct customer contacts.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Four-year degree in a technical program, BS Desired in Mechanical, Civil, or (ME/CE technology); or,

• 5-10 years of combined experience of working in NDS and fiber optic design

 

Desired Skills:

• Lumen NDS Quantum Fiber standards knowledge

• Familiarization with Corning products

• Knowledge of Procore Technologies Construction Management Software.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Create complex network designs utilizing numerous layers in NDS.

• Create splice diagrams at splice locations using information from NDS.

• Manage multiple tasks at a time and create methods to organize tasks into a project flow to be reported out on as needed

• Participate in scope review with customer and/or vendors to ensure design requirements and output are understood thoroughly

• Assemble design in the most cost-effective method with understanding of the impact of construction and material cost and the optimization of Corning specified materials

• Selected candidate Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years.

Travel Requirements:

• Minimum travel is expected (< 5%)
