The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.



Data, automation and advanced analytics technologies are drastically transforming industrial manufacturers beyond point process automation to systemic, highly contextualized and data driven systems. Corning is building the foundational digital infrastructure for these company-wide efforts and has established an Emerging Technology (ET) function responsible for developing and realizing digital technologies and methods across Corning. ET is charged with working across our various digital organizations to establish our digital capabilities, processes, operations, and portfolio and is looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented individuals to turn proof-of-value projects into digital products that are operationalized for broad corporate use. A core component of these offerings is strengthening the use of Corning’s data to drive insights and decision making. The Data Operations Leader will be responsible for establish agile and robust operational processes within the ET Data Office to insure our data products and services can support the needs of the business. They will drive core DevOps capabilities in automation, monitoring, deployment/release, and incident management into our data service offerings. This candidate will serve as the primary leader to push our operational maturity forward.



As the Data Operations Leader, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Drive overall operations strategy, roadmap, and prioritization in the Data Office to mature our platform and products operational readiness and meet stated SLAs
  • Spearhead Agile ITSM, DevOps, CICD constructs with core current ITIL process, standards, and tools
  • Align our standard operations practices with ET’s Operations function
  • Works with Nerve Center to provide estimates, timelines, and requirements DataOps related projects Incident & Problem Management
  • Oversees the Data Office Service Desk including incident and service request management activities and associated tools and processes.
  • Contact point for Data Office operational escalations to discuss impact, status, expected resolutions.
  • Monitors workflow to ensure incidents adhere to Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliance
  • Build tools and automation that eliminate repetitive tasks and prevent incident occurrence
  • Ensures that the right actions are taken to investigate, resolve and anticipate problems.
  • Coordinates across teams to investigate problems, implement solutions and take preventative measures
  • Builds knowledge library to improve first time fix and restore service promptly Service Level Management
  • Managing current service delivery for Data Office platforms and products, implementing solutions to improve service stability, automation, capacity planning, identifying and deploying preventative maintenance solutions
  • Manage and monitor service metrics to expected target and take proactive action to drive to established service expectations
  • Active customer engagement to collect feedback and address any concerns and ensure end-user satisfaction.
  • Deliver monthly report on service uptime, outages, and planned improvements Automation, Alerting, & Release Management
  • Ensure data products and platforms have required instrumentation and alerting
  • Govern automated monitoring of CI/CD pipelines across all stages of the application delivery lifecycle.
  • Build various dashboards to communicate platform or system health.
  • Ensure releases are safe to deploy and auditable for process adherence
  • Drive consistent use of production deployment, packaging, tools, and processes Platform & Application Support
  • Ensure the operational reliability, performance, and stability of the data office platforms to stated SLAs
  • Provide application support services for the data products that support Corning’s business and applications
  • Partner with vendor customer success managers to maximize use of the platform and prioritize Corning needs into their roadmap
  • Oversee the licenses and cost profiles of the data platforms and products
  • Drive annual capacity planning and health assessments Team Management
  • Lead a team of 5-10 engineers, evaluate performance, and supervise development of direct staff
  • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and will oversee the support team’s work schedules; maintains standards; monitors work status in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Coach, develop and lead employees using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning. Effectively manage performance through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action (if necessary).
  • Evaluate support team members’ day-to-day performance and assist leadership with mentoring, counseling, disciplining, and appraising annual employee performance.


Qualifications, Experience, and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent area of technical study
  • 4+ years in an Operations leadership or similar role supporting data platforms and products such as enterprise data warehouse, data lake, enterprise reporting, ETL, and data services
  • 5+ years’ experience in a supervisory role leading sizeable cross-functional, global teams in a fast paced, high velocity agile environment
  • Experience with Databricks, PowerBI, SQL Server, Tableau, and Snowflake/Teradata a plus
  • Seasoned experience leading DevOps transformation into software development teams to increase velocity and customer satisfaction in product features and incident resolution
  • Hands on expertise in driving automation in software build, test and release
  • Previous experience developing data products for internal or external use preferred
  • Experience with ITIL and Agile based processes and tools such as Service Now, GitLab, Atlassian, Jira, Terraform, Jenkins, etc
  • Working knowledge of modern cloud deployment, monitoring and alerting tools & practices
  • Ability to work with DevOps and Reliability Engineers to ensure the proper tooling and environment to support operations
  • Strong ability to define and manage a strategic roadmap with an emphasis on Operations and DevOps
  • Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle multiple, conflicting and changing priorities
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Ability to lead, inspire and motivate remote / hybrid teams
