Role Purpose

Patent Paralegal role within Corning’s Law Department contributing to the operational excellence of the Intellectual Property (IP) Department. Provides legal assistance and performs a variety of legal-related tasks including document preparation, review, docket management, research, and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports patent attorneys for the intake of intellectual property matters and correspondence, managing IP-related data and documents.
  • Communicates with external law firms and internal business and technical contacts.
  • Prepares and submits patent applications and other patent filings to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other patent offices world-wide.
  • Drafts assignments, declarations, and completes templates and other documents for attorney review, as well as filing of such documents.  
  • Ensures that the patent filings are complete and submitted in a format acceptable to the USPTO or other patent office and in compliance with Department guidelines.
  • Prepares and assists with managing attorney dockets and running other reports needed for the patent attorneys to effectively manage patent and technology portfolios.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Ability to read complex documents, flag relevant issues, conduct research, and analyze findings effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, adherence to protocols, multitasking, and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, interact professionally, and deliver high-quality, error-free outputs under pressure.
  • Proficiency with software tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat) to manage documents, data, and workload efficiently while improving processes.
  • Skilled in handling confidential documents securely, exercising good judgment, and communicating clearly in writing and orally.
  • Associate’s degree/equivalent education, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience



 

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree/equivalent education, or work experience preferred.
  • Paralegal certification

The range for this position is $54,809.00 - $75,363.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
