The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Role Purpose
As a Platform Engineering Lead within Digital Delivery, you will lead our small but growing Cloud Automation Team. This hybrid role combines hands-on technical contributions with leadership responsibilities, focusing on managing our cloud services team and platform. This team will continue to create, deploy, and own technologies that enable and empower scientists, engineers, and developers to manufacture things that matter. Platform Engineers are encouraged to experiment with the latest technologies, to constantly learn and expand their skills, and to use those skills in ever-changing ways.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the team and platform to deliver a stable, secure, software-driven platform to accelerate development and deployments for our internal customers
- Collaborate and communicate with other teams as the leader/representative for the Cloud Service Platform. This includes FinOps, cost projections, vendor management, and more
- Enable advanced application architectures across manufacturing, engineering, R&D, commercial, product development (including external services), cyber, enterprise applications and infrastructure.
- Advocate for the democratization of access to cloud technologies, for the modernization of traditional applications, and for the responsible use of cloud services
- Produce scalable, highly available, repeatable cloud solutions
- Develop, maintain, and evolve cloud configuration automation
- Simplify and reinvent existing systems, processes, and tools to make things better for our users, developers, and scientists
- Provide insight into best practices regarding cloud architecture, automation, observability, orchestration, operability, resilience, and security
- Create, modify, and adapt cloud solutions to keep the organization aligned between the business requirements and technology capabilities
- Facilitate meetings with business partners and technologies teams to build consensus and drive solution decisions without compromising delivery and/or service
- Provide standards and platforms for future application development and help our peer engineers, developers, and scientists make the best use of technology
- Align existing application portfolio to cloud standards and services
- Be a highly motivated and active contributor across multiple work streams and manage deliveries accordingly across multiple projects
- Evaluate new technologies, services, and products
- Participate actively in team discussions, daily standups, periodic demos and retrospectives
- Participate in incident response efforts as needed
- Detect and highlight new or unmitigated risks, analyze problems, define solutions, and articulate those in a clear discernible manner
Experiences/Education - Required
- BS degree in IT, Computer Science or technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of support and management of highly scalable, highly available infrastructure, solutions and services
- 5+ years of experience with Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) services and solutions.
- Understanding of Agile Methodologies and practices such as Scrum and Kanban
- Demonstrated Leadership Experience
Experiences/Education - Desired
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent experience
- Deep knowledge of application architecture and development including application servers, middleware, systems management, monitoring, configuration management, capacity planning and performance tuning, highly availability architectures
- Demonstrable experience in using development languages such as Python, Perl, Java, Go, Ruby, Shell or other languages, to build reusable tools
This position can be based in Charlotte, NC, Corning, NY or remote.

The range for this position is $176,785.00 - $243,080.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
