Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Job Purpose

The Product Line Management (PLM) Intern will gain practical experience and insight into the diverse functions of the Product Line Management team. They will interact with essential stakeholders across the organization, such as the Regional PLMs, Sales, Market Development, AIR (Account Insight Research), Customer Care, Product Development/Technology, and Manufacturing. This exposure will enhance their understanding of the collaborative efforts of the PLM team to devise and implement a product line strategy that drives sales growth and profitability. As a member of the PLM Strategy and Process Excellence team, the intern will identify a business challenge within the PLM organization and suggest an improvement to a process, structure, or technology that the PLM Organization can adopt to overcome this challenge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be involved in crafting an initiative, potentially enhancing processes, structure, and/or technology.
  • Aggregate, organize, and scrutinize data to conduct analyses, validate theories, and gauge potential impacts.
  • Distill insights, devise strategic recommendations, and create materials to support change for enhancements.
  • Collaborate with appropriate teams and foster relationships to achieve project objectives.
  • Monitor, evaluate, report on, and resolve project challenges, while exploring, documenting, and proposing potential solutions.
  • Engage in data-driven analysis activities as dictated by business requirements, establishing links between business prospects, obstacles, and the pertinent data.
  • Gather, analyze, and deliver findings to stakeholders succinctly and effectively.

Minimum Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in business or engineering
  • A well-rounded academic background
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt in ever changing environments
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • A strong team player who is proactive, responsive, and can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Aptitude to digest large amounts of information while using it to develop innovative solutions with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, data analytics, process/flow charting, and other business tools
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
