Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Product Line Manager is responsible for leading the cross-functional Product Team consisting of colleagues from Operations, Manufacturing, Technology, Engineering and Supply Chain, responsible for the development of the product line 1YP while leading the product line to strategic growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities

Customer and Market Understanding
- Responsible for the development of a clear and competitive value prop for all products within the Product line
- Leading the Product Team in leveraging competitive assessment to ensure product lines competitive edge is advantaged in the market
Formulate Strategy
- Responsible for the Product Line intellectual property portfolio reviewing periodically with the legal organization.
- Support the completion of the budget planning (Greenbook, Black book, Technology) while leading the Product Line capacity planning processes (iMax)
- Builds credibility with customers and internal decision-makers by delivering data-based strategic direction for the product line and supporting it articulately.
Strategic Planning
- Work with the Product Line Manager (PLM) and Product Team members to execute product life-cycle management strategy
- Work with the PLM to contribute to the development of both long- and short-term business strategies to maximize profitability and achieve growth
Key Responsibilities continued

Develop & Launch Products
- Champion new product development and timely release through collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Market Development, Technology and Manufacturing Operations. Collaborate closely with the value creation team to ensure Product Line portfolio aligns with market needs with strong Value Propositions.
- Responsible for leading the launch of platform based product launches across the product line setting launch strategy, commercialization and external market engagements.
Manage the Product Line (Post Launch)
- Responsible for the Product Line product Lifecycle.
- Lead major RFQ and Pricing Events ensuring full alignment with Product Line revenue and profitability goals. Responsible for setting overall product line pricing strategy.
- Responsible for the Product Line financial forecasting.
People, Skills, Competencies
- Leads the cross-functional Product Team consisting of colleagues from Operations, Manufacturing, Technology, Engineering and Supply Chain.
- Develops Product Specialist and Product Coordinator work within the Product Line
Travel Requirements
Up to 25% annually, some international
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business; MBA preferred
- Demonstrated cross-functional leadership qualities.
- Demonstrated track record of managing projects.
- Demonstrated track record of leading multi-functional teams.
- Ability to lead prioritization and decision making within the product team.
- Strong communication skills across Product Team and commercial organization.
- 8+ years of work experience.

The range for this position is $148,181.00 - $203,749.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
