Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

The Product Line Manager is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive product line strategy to drive sustained sales growth and profitability. This role will expand the product line into a significant growth opportunity in North America by increasing channel access, diversifying customer accounts, and strengthening engagement with external partners and key end customers.

 

The Product Line Manager will champion innovation, including bringing next-generation technologies to market, while creating demand pull for future product innovations. This role also leads internal enablement through sales training, webinars, and cross-functional collaboration, while translating customer insights into differentiated product solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the product line strategy based on market requirements, competitive positioning, and differentiation opportunities
  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Development, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to achieve strategic objectives

Business Planning & Forecasting

  • Own supply and demand planning through the SIOP process
  • Develop short- and long-term forecasts and deliver financial commitments to Corporate
  • Balance customer requirements with operational and manufacturing capabilities
  • Identify, justify, and execute capacity investments to support long-term demand

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Drive products from concept through commercialization and end-of-life
  • Lead new product identification, development prioritization, complexity reduction, and obsolescence management to maximize product line value

Pricing & Commercial Strategy

  • Optimize pricing structures, including floor pricing and premium positioning
  • Partner with Account Management to develop compelling customer value propositions
  • Evaluate new product requests through robust business case and ROI analysis

Standards & IP Strategy

  • Define and execute intellectual property and industry standards strategies
  • Collaborate with the Standards organization to influence market direction and establish competitive advantage

People Development

  • Build the next generation of leaders in Product Line Management and adjacent functions
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and development guidance to team members and cross-functional partners

Experience & Education

 

Required

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in optical communications or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex projects
  • 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams

 

Desired

 

  • MBA or equivalent demonstrated business experience
  • Experience managing people
  • Financial analysis and accounting experience
  • Background in Manufacturing, Commercial, Strategy, or Product Line functions
  • International business experience
  • Participation in or leadership of multicultural and/or multi-geographic projects

The range for this position is $125,150.00 - $172,082.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
