Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role Purpose

 

The Product Line Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day business management of the Product Line team while assisting with the execution of the 1-year plan strategic objectives, reporting to the Product Line Manager. PLS has a foundational understanding of the customer application, supports new product development, leads cross-functional internal teams, and drives product value prop development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Partner with Value Creation and Network Architecture teams to identify new product application opportunities through market and competitive assessments.
  • Support customer engagements as the voice of the customer (VOC) expert for the product line.
  • Identify product line enhancements and positioning opportunities using competitive insights and market knowledge.
  • Work with the Product Line Manager and Product Team to execute product lifecycle management strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of short- and long-term business strategies that maximize profitability and drive growth.
  • Lead execution of the product line’s strategic direction in alignment with business objectives.
  • Support new product development from early-stage justification through commercialization.
  • Lead product launch activities, including internal commercialization efforts and external customer or market engagements.
  • Support new product development and engineering initiatives to maintain market timing, cost, prioritization, and growth opportunities.
  • Execute product line pricing strategies, resolve product/quality/service issues, align demand and supply with Supply Chain and Manufacturing, and identify opportunities to reduce complexity and cost.

  

Education and Experience -Required:

 

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred Engineering and/or Business)
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience product line management, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and/or commercial/marketing
  • Initiative and drive to identify and solve problems and complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt the message to different audiences (i.e. production vs. design engineers vs. sales)
  • Commercial / customer facing acumen for mapping product line value proposition to customer requirements (experience leading voice of customer engagements is preferred)
  • Experience prioritizing multiple projects/initiatives concurrently, and effectively manage their own schedule
  • Leadership skills to effectively drive cross-functional teams
  • Analytical skills to conduct complex numerical analysis, and build data models in Excel or other tools

The range for this position is $100,646.00 - $138,388.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
