Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of Position:
To provide expert technical support for key external customers, Marketing and Sales for emerging products and solutions for the Hyperscale Team. This would include engagement in all aspects of a new product from concept development to training and support of product installation at customers’ sites globally. Work closely with Market Development and PMO to identify and execute new product innovations required by global accounts. Have awareness of competitive activity and product designs to minimize risk to Corning.
Required Qualifications:
• 5+ years of Field and Telecommunications Industry experience or Manufacturing experience.
• Must be an effective communicator, able to deliver messages through various methods
• Must possess significant knowledge of Corning Fiber Optic products and processes
• Fluent Language Skills in English, both spoken and written
• Ability to manage tasks effectively in an actively changing environment
• Results oriented with a high commitment level to task completion
• Willingness to work outside of normal scheduled business hours when necessary
• Sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills
• Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers
• Must be detailed oriented and conscientious
Desired Qualifications:
• BS degree in Engineering Related Studies (i.e., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Optics)
• 3+ years of technical supervisory experience or equivalent military leadership experience
• Be proactive with a willingness to take the lead and influence an outcome
• Ability to listen, make wise decisions, and act with little direction
• Ability to organize and coordinate a complex work schedule with a variety of duties
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
• Knowledge of utility construction and project planning procedures
• Previously held a position in Engineering Services providing technical field support
• Experience managing innovation projects and supporting field trials
Additional Requirements:
• Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years
• Must not be color blind – distinct color acuity is required in this industry
• Must be able to obtain a U.S. Passport
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
Major Roles and Responsibilities:
• Provide support and oversight to Hyperscale or IBN Enterprise Market initiatives
• Coordinate with Hyperscale program managers, Market development, GAMs, or other stakeholders to ensure all support needs are provided
• Provide engineering process support for other tactical projects that may need Engineering Services
• Interact directly with customers to understand their problems, their requirements, and identify innovation opportunities or guide customers to solutions within manufacturing capabilities
• Articulate customer’s use case and work with Technology during design and development phases to meet customer’s requirements
• Contribute to the generation of Intellectual Property (IP / patents) in conjunction with Technology
• Identify potential failure modes for installation of new products and work with Technology team to mitigate in development where possible, or develop appropriate training material
• Train customer’s design engineers, design firms, and installation contractors on new products, solution sets and installation
• Establish procedures for innovation products, i.e., how products are to be handled, installed, and tested in their appropriate spaces
• Support field trials for new product initiatives
• Identify new use cases for innovation while in the field
• Provide design input into software configurators or other design work aids
• Deeply understand manufacturing capabilities an align to customer requirements
• Work closely with PLM to develop part numbers and order processes for solutions
• Provide internal training to ES for all innovation
• Collect and present installation data from field trials and early-stage deployments to support value props for innovation
• Assist marketing and sales with creation of case studies and collateral for new innovations
• Manage and prioritize tasks for field engineers that are temporarily assigned to support innovation projects

The range for this position is $94,106.00 - $129,396.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
