Role Purpose

In this role, you have the opportunity to impact the corporation by combining your understanding of manufacturing processes with disciplined problem-solving methods to deliver direct impact to the company bottom line. Project assignments vary widely and can include deep study into fundamental understanding of glass, ceramic or molding processes, qualification of new equipment, augmenting manufacturing operations, identifying process improvements, finding ways to increase throughput and capacity or identifying needed technology to impact capability.   
  
In addition to manufacturing know-how, you will have an opportunity to use project management skills to manage timelines, costs and deliverables.     
  
MTE process engineering has a unique role in that you will be assigned to various projects across the entire corporation depending on the priority or urgency of any project.  The Chemical and Process Engineering leadership is committed to provides relevant training to our team by focusing on the fundamentals of manufacturing excellence and leadership skills. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities across the country
  • Lead yourself and teams towards solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem-solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma
  • Lead the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, as well as, use your analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.)
  • Provide Project Management expertise towards Process Excellence programs, including but not limited to the management of program definition, milestone creation, detailed timeline, resource planning and prioritization, and stakeholder communication
  • Other responsibilities include ownership of performance measurement and reporting against established objectives; clear communication of KPI’s, risks, savings; leads data review and interpretation to drive immediate containment actions, long‑term corrective actions, and follow‑up experimentation; and is accountable for process documentation and the training and mentoring of operators and peers to ensure consistent execution of defined processes

 

Required Education

  • We require a minimum of BS in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (MS preferred) and 10+ years hands-on experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding
  • Demonstrated use of scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes and experiment plans 
  • Leading a Quality improvement/Operational excellence team through continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six-Sigma, Kaizan, PDC, DMAIC to achieve results that are communicated and followed through under your ownership 
  • Advanced data analysis and statistical skills; Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, JMP, Minitab, or equivalent
  • Lead teams through risk management (Safety is priority, PFMEA, hazard analysis, etc).  Focused on defining process/product compliance, management of change (MOC), validation and requalification of processes
  • Experienced process capability / run charting and trend charting experience, including experience defining data visualization techniques
  • Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization – efficient communication (written and verbal to leadership) and appropriate documentation
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions

The range for this position is $114,457.00 - $157,379.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
