Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position:

The Global Marketing Customer Education & Programs Team is responsible for delivering best in class, industry-leading Marketing Programs and Customer Education. These programs and trainings deliver product awareness, solutions, and services through both hands-on and virtual educational offerings extending Corning’s Customers and Program Members product preference and brand loyalty.

 

The Training and Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for supporting Customer Education initiatives such as updating training content within our current offerings for program members, training/alliance partners & other applicable customers in the In-Building Network (IBN), Data Center and Carrier (CN) Market. This person will take directions and guidance from the Manager, Customer Education to define the annual training plan. This role will update training curriculums, update material which supports our training offerings, support training through teaching, and support specialized education programs as requested through teaching. Additional responsibilities include development of onboarding trainers, and management of our training kit material to ensure equipment is maintained and bill of materials updated.

 

The Customer Education team has a global footprint, and this role will be expected to have a cross-regional mindset to ensure the curriculum within training is able to support uniformly within each region as we continue to expand our training offerings.

 

We support each other collectively to assist in team development, cross training, and teaching for the See the Light portfolio in its entirety for In-Building Network (IBN), Data Center and Carrier (CN) Market. This includes virtual and hands-on paid training and seminars. Experience with Fiber optics knowledge and training is recommended.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Performs the role of updating content and materials for training courses with directives from Manager, Customer Education and program stakeholders.
  • Analyze new training requests with directive from Manager, Customer Education to help define business case objectives and scope of request aligning with Corning’s goals.
  • Work with internal SME’s (PLM, Market Development, Engineering Services, Creative Services), Vendors (Fluke, Viavi, EXFO, Illsintech), to incorporate their knowledge into training curriculum.
  • Assists in the evaluation of existing training material and industry needs, responsible for curriculum updates as requested.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the appropriate methods of how trainings are designed for both instructor-led and e-learning programs.
  • Assist with the development of course materials, using appropriate and applicable instructional design methodology.
  • Design, develop and implement e-learning course to complement in-person courses.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in Systems Engineering, Field Engineering and Regional Marketing regarding content updates, curriculum creation, and hands-on instructional design to develop/source training curriculum to meet specific needs of the business and customers.
  • Working with Engineering Services, Field Engineering, Tradeshow to build and maintain product samples and equipment to support class curriculum.
  • Working with Engineering Service to integrate with Field training where applicable for continued product knowledge learning and safety training.
  • Develop and maintain auditing process for train the trainer program and support as requested.
  • Provide technical support/answers to customers as needed and funnel general training questions back to Marketing Specialist, Customer Education where appropriate.
  • As a representative of Corning Optical Communications, ensure that you convey the highest level of integrity in behavior and appearance and help to fulfill all customer expectations as a premier supplier.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical assistance globally to both internal and external customers.
  • Master optical test and splice equipment and procedures required to perform training you’re leading.
  • Instruct fiber optic training courses at various Corning locations, Regional locations, and at customer sites.
  • Support maintenance of training equipment.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 70%

 

Education and Experience: Required 

  • BS/BA or equivalent degree in a technical field or similar subject area with 2-4 years working within a technical field/telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with instruction or training coordination and/or delivery preferred.
  • Desire to work with and learn software and cloud applications preferred.
  • Technical writing ability, with emphasis on effective presentation of detailed concepts.

 

Education and Experience: Desired

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of fiber optic networks.

The range for this position is $80,011.00 - $110,016.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
