Purpose of the Position:

  • Support Corning materials technology manufacturing and development in Asia.
  • Develop MTE Asia Material Science and Engineering team technical capability to meet Corning Asia’s growth.
  • Understand polymer/organic materials, polymer process and defect analysis.
  • Support polymer and organic application process for projects, including polymer extrusion, injection, coating, printing and glass/ceramic finishing, etc.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Conduct process improvement experiments and manufacturing studies. Statistics analysis of manufacturing and experimental data to find process upset root causes and appropriate solution. Utilize data analysis techniques to reduce cycle- time, improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce loss, and implement improved processes and new products.
  • Process engineering study and implementation of final products, final inspection, data collection, and quality controls to meet customer specifications
  • Defining and analyzing material performance, process capability and requirements, co-work on stage 2-3 testing and stage 4-5 technology migration.
  • Transfer technology to divisions and manufacturing plants with full implementation of training and documentation systems (Standard Operation Procedures, Process Set-points and Training)
  • Job requires periodic travel to Corning Incorporated and vendors locations in Asia and USA for process development of new products, new operation and process improvement projects.

 

 

 

  • Increase customers’ awareness of process control efforts, methodology and process analysis techniques.
  • Work with research & development teams for new processes and product development and introductions.

 

Project involved with:

  • Participate in all stages of manufacture processes that involved polymer molding, lamination, decoration, protection and glass/ceramic finishing process.
  • Development and Engineering for new material research for cost effective, high performance in all Corning’s manufacturing systems and require collaboration with US counterparts, manufacture and other related organization.
  • Investigate the interaction of materials and energy input based on thermal and mechanical property of materials.

           Need to initiate experiment planning, execution and data analysis.

 

Education & Experience

  • Master degree in engineering or science field- Polymer Materials, Chemical, Applied Chemistry or Applied Materials with strong background analytical statistics and mathematics.
  • 3-5 years experience in materials conversion process in Melting, Forming, Extrusion, Injection etc.
  • 3-5 years experience in development of polymer materials, engineering of the new materials or new applications, designing new material processes and migration to mass production.
  • 3-5 years experience in engineering of polymer application in materials.
  • 3-5 years experience in engineering of injection and extrusion process.
  • 3-5 years experience in materials defect understanding and defect characterization.

 

Required Skills

  • Fundamental understanding of polymer physical/chemical properties and defect analysis / fracture root-cause understanding skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of polymer application and process of injection and extrusion.
  • Operation on polymer process equipment and material analysis instruments.
  • Research on polymer materials, process, synthesis and mechanical properties.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese.
