The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Role Purpose
To design, code, implement, support and maintain Blacksburg’s Information Technology applications, both as an individual performer and as a member of a project team. Support the daily operations of the business. Provide analysis, design and coding support for business enhancements to the system. Maintain adherence to Corning’s Information Systems standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead small to medium size projects.
- Maintains existing client server and web based applications.
- Recommends and develops information system projects that improve manufacturing efficiencies and product quality.
- Assume leadership for own portion of large projects
- Use standard methodologies to carry out projects and tasks
- Develop application interfaces that are tailored to the user needs and are integrated with new and existing systems.
- Develop accurate, efficient, and user friendly computer programs
- Provide problem solving assistance in one or more applications or technical areas
- Apply knowledge and judgment to problem situations
- Provide services which adhere to standards and established procedures
- Monitor service levels and actively look for ways to improve service efficiency and effectiveness
- Test, debug, and document programs to ensure desired customer requirements are met.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
- Interact with users in defining and analyzing a problem
- Participation in an after hours on-call rotation is a requirement (approximately every 5 weeks).
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering
- Application platform experience (such as VB.NET or ASP.NET) with a primary focus on supporting complex business processes.
- Database skills preferably in Microsoft SQL.
- Troubleshooting and debugging skills for complex applications.
- Knowledge of Windows environments and IIS.
- Ability to complete small to medium scale projects in a team environment.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Application design, development, and delivery experience.
Preferred & Soft Skills
- Experience with the multi-user MES interfaces. Example: GE Proficy
- Microsoft SSRS reporting experience.
- Experience using Team Foundation Server.
- Experience developing and debugging SQLServer stored procedures.
- Expert knowledge of business process mapping and documentation of business requirements, system design, and technical standards.
- Communications skills – ability to interact with peers, customers, and management in course of performing function.
- Ability to direct or guide other resources in the delivery of collaboration capabilities.
- Ability to facilitate a technical team in setting new standards and setting new technical directions in the composite application space.
- Good Teamwork, written and oral communication and customer service skills.
- Detailed and organized.

The range for this position is $63,169.00 - $86,858.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
