Role Purpose
Why This Role, Why Now?
Most engineering grads start their careers behind a screen. Manufacturing Supervisors at Corning start theirs leading a team of 50–75 skilled operators and technicians, partnering daily with engineering, quality, and plant leadership to keep one of the largest, most advanced ceramics manufacturing operations in the world running at peak performance.
You don't need years of manufacturing experience to succeed here. You need curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the drive to lead people through real-world problem-solving. We'll provide the rest.
Where Can This Role Take You?
A Manufacturing Supervisor role is one of the most powerful early-career experiences Corning offers. In 1–2 years, you'll have built the kind of foundation that opens doors across the company:
- Process & Manufacturing Engineering – Apply what you've learned about real production to design better processes
- Continuous Improvement / Six Sigma Leadership – Drive plant-wide performance projects
- Operations & Plant Management – Step into broader leadership roles overseeing multiple production areas
- Technology Transfer & New Product Introduction – Work alongside R&D to bring next-generation products from lab to line
- Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain Leadership – Cross-functional moves enabled by your hands-on operating credibility
- Senior Leadership Pipeline – Many of Corning's plant managers, operations directors, and division leaders started exactly where you'll start
The candidates who thrive here build process expertise and people leadership skills at the same time — a combination that's rare and highly valued throughout your career.
Key Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Lead a team of 50–75 operators and technicians during your shift, ensuring safety, quality, and production targets are met
- Operate independently — make real-time decisions on staffing, line issues, and priorities, escalating when needed
- Partner with engineering, quality, planning, and plant leadership to solve problems and improve operations
- Track and report manufacturing metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
- Coach, develop, and recognize your team — your success is measured by theirs
- Manage day-to-day operations including task assignments, work checks, timecards, and payroll
- Deepen your process expertise by working hand-in-hand with engineers on technology hand-offs, troubleshooting, and improvement projects
The Schedule
- This role operates on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, cycling between days and nights. We're upfront about this because it's a real consideration, and we want candidates who go in with eyes open.
Rotation pattern: A multi-week rotating cycle — 2 days on / 3 days off, 3 days on / 3 days off, 3 days on / 2 days off, 3 days on / 3 days off — then restarts. On average, you'll have nearly as many days off as days on.

- Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement concepts
- Process-improvement mindset — you naturally look for "how can this be better?"
