Scope of Position:

Responsible for the Plant Quality Management System (QMS), including IATF16949 registration and VDA compliance. Ensure customer and industry requirements are understood and met. Strengthen the Product Quality Systems and Architecture within the organization by driving fundamental understanding and continual improvements that positively influence the Quality Management System. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and mitigate risks associated with process, product, and equipment changes. Make decisions independently based upon sound engineering and scientific methods.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises 3-5 people possibly including technicians, quality engineers, and hourly department support roles (Level 3’s).
  • Supports Quality Architecture in the day to day manufacturing environment, ensuring quality systems are well executed.
  • Facilitates efforts in understanding processes capability and product quality architecture. Designs new and improves existing quality architecture systems and for new product
  • Leads Internal, External, and Customer audit activities – including IATF16949, VDA (German Association of Automotive Industry standard), etc. to maintain/achieve required registrations
  • Leads organization responsible for the following activities:
    • Customer quality audits of the plant. Leads corrective action teams to resolve audit deficiencies
    • Provide statistical design and analysis services to internal plant departments
    • Managing the Corrective/Preventive Action system
    • Lead the plant Quality Steering Team meetings
  • Support performance excellence activities within the facility
  • Evaluates the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures including capability assessments.
  • Works with manufacturing and engineering on completing sustainable solutions which are compliant and aligned with our quality system and customer agreements.
  • Participate as a Quality Representative on New Process / New Equipment Teams to ensure all new products and processes meet Quality Requirements. Make updates/changes to plant Quality Systems as needed.
  • Understand internal and external customers’ stated and implied needs as well as ensuring their expectations are met every time by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and continuously improving plant quality systems. Includes plant acceptance of Customer Specific Requirements (CSR’s).
  • Coach shift quality representatives (Level 2’s) as needed.
  • Lead and support projects as required
  • Act as Quality Receiver for new processes/expansions.

 

Travel Requirements: Domestic and International travel as required to support business needs.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ hours per week with occasional morning and evening conference calls.
  • This role is a member of the Quality Department’s weekend team coverage.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Degree required; engineering, quality, STEM or other equivalent technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in manufacturing or manufacturing support role.
  • Some supervisory experience.

 

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of statistical methodology, ability to craft, execute and analyze experiments using statistical tools
  • Ability to learn and develop quality systems
  • Ability to articulate risks and influence decisions on product quality
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and/or ISO 9001 standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to drive to root cause analysis and direct Engineering solutions
  • Ability to learn and understand multiple areas in the plant in order to prioritize work and resources
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Experience with data collection and data analysis software and techniques, including Excel, MiniTab, JMP, Pi, Access, etc. or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead & supervise people

 

Desired Skills:

  • DMAIC Green Belt training/certification
  • Product Quality Architecture training
  • Familiarity with product specifications and measurements
  • Knowledge of material specifications/testing procedures
  • Statistical Process Control understanding
  • Certified Auditor for IATF16949, ISO 9001, VDA or similar
  • Demonstrates technical curiosity by asking questions and seeking deeper understanding of new technology or in areas of technical gaps
