Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead a diverse and talented team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, focusing on:

 

  • Maintaining and enhancing safety measures.

  • Ensuring top-tier product quality.

  • Deploying new technologies.

  • Expanding manufacturing capacity.

  • Driving cost reduction strategies.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide daily supervision to the Fibermaking manufacturing area, delivering exceptional customer support.

  • Prioritize support efforts to boost performance and minimize costs.

  • Engage actively in setting department objectives, resource allocation, and prioritization.

  • Promote and participate in plant safety initiatives, ensuring full team involvement.

  • Develop systems to monitor equipment and process performance.

  • Drive the MEE process and foster a deep understanding of processes and equipment.

  • Assign challenging tasks to team members, supporting career growth and development.

  • Plan short- and long-term strategies for equipment and process improvements.

  • Sponsor or lead initiatives aimed at cost reduction, safety, quality improvement, increased capacity, and new product development.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel is minimal, under 5%, including domestic and international trips.

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 40+ hours per week.

  • Some overtime and off-hours leadership support are required to meet business demands.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Ceramic, Materials Engineering, or related field with relevant manufacturing experience.

 

  • Experience: 4+ years in a manufacturing environment.

 

Skills:

 

  • Strong decision-making abilities across technical domains.

  • Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.

  • Capability to effectively interact at all organizational levels.

  • Proven project management skills, including handling interrelated tasks.

  • Proficient multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of optical fiber properties and performance parameters.

  • Expertise in scientific methods and first-principle engineering.

  • Strong data analysis and documentation skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Familiarity with Fibermaking processes and community.

  • Working knowledge of physical phenomena such as heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and polymer curing.

  • Supervisory experience with a focus on technical team coaching.

  • Six Sigma/DMAIC Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

  • Extensive project management background.

The range for this position is $125,900.00 - $173,113.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
