Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

Performs a variety of technical duties and activities as a part of the Product, Process and Development (PPD) Fibermaking group including: experimental wareflow management, collection of data from manufacturing process, data analysis, and equipment maintenance and/or modifications. May work with a range of personnel including development, engineering, and operations.  Use measurement or process data to help engineers resolve production upsets, improve manufacturing yields, and develop new processes or products.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Works with Fibermaking teams focused on new product introduction, process improvement, and cost reduction projects
  • Works with engineers to develop and execute experimentation required to develop and integrate new processes & products into production.
  • Works on innovation projects to reduce costs, downtime and/or defects to increase yields.
  • May develop or implement new measurement devices for development or production purposes.
  • May operate fiber measurement devices and collect data to support product or process understanding.
  • Trains and coaches new development, engineering and operations personnel on equipment and processes.
  • Understands equipment used in key processes and interprets data from processes to solve problems.
  • Proactively communicates with front-line production workforce and technical teams to assure that safety, health, equipment standard operating procedures and environmental regulatory compliance are assured for new equipment or processes.
  • Provides inputs to project plans that identify resources and accurate timelines

 

Required Skills:

  • Associates Degree in a technical field or strong Math/Science background and/or experiences
  • 3-8 years experience in technician roles
  • Familiarity with Draw and/or Fiber Processing areas or other optical fiber manufacturing
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of processes
  • Previous technician or operator roles that allowed for better understanding of the equipment and processes
  • Fluent with Outlook, Word, Excel; Willing and able to learn new software or programs

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Draw troubleshooting and tasks such as Ensolv, coating/ink purge, and/or mixing equipment
  • Experience operating fiber processing equipment such as OTDR bench, screeners, microscopy, and/or FTIR
  • Documentation and/or technical report writing experience
  • Experience working in or with a Corning Development group

The range for this position is $60,620.00 - $83,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
