Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Direct team operations group to achieve Cost, Quality, Health and Safety objectives. Execute the plant plan objectives at the tactical level focused on continuous improvement
Key Responsibilities
As a Fibermaking Shift Supervisor, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Champion safety and quality, promoting world-class performance on a daily basis.
- Supervise a team of Production Associates in optical fiber manufacturing.
- Ensure adherence to established procedures and document control protocols.
- Maintain high housekeeping and 6S standards.
- Coach strong shift performance and ensure seamless shift-to-shift handovers with real-time feedback.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate daily activities effectively.
- Manage workflow and prioritize tasks to achieve operational goals.
- Lead PEx and team meetings, manage team recognition events, and oversee recognition budgets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support team members in kaizen generation and implementation.
- Identify and remove roadblocks for the team while communicating additional support needs to leadership.
- Hold team members accountable for process adherence and conduct performance improvement discussions as needed.
- Develop and execute comprehensive training plans for both new hires and current team members.
- Support team leadership development.
- Prepare and deliver reports to the supervisory chain.
- Protect Corning's Intellectual Property (IP).
Applicant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field OR relevant experience in a manufacturing supervisory role.
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience and 1+ years of leadership within a team.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and PI Vision/Process Book.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.
- A positive attitude with a focus on employee relations and conflict resolution.
- Ability to function independently, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Peer accountability with consistent application of policies and procedures.
- Availability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- No attendance issues or active disciplinary record.
Desired Skills:
- Yellow Belt Certification.
- Project management experience.

The range for this position is $79,166.00 - $108,854.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
