Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

Provides advanced mechanical engineering support to plant manufacturing operations, with responsibility for improving equipment reliability, process performance, and overall production capability. Leads and supports the design, specification, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of process equipment and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable operation. Partners closely with operations, maintenance, process engineering, project teams, contractors, and equipment suppliers to resolve technical issues, execute improvement projects, increase uptime and throughput, and enhance product quality, safety, and long-term asset performance.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead plant engineering projects involving equipment upgrades, reliability improvements, utility system modifications, capacity expansions, and manufacturing start-up support.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for chronic equipment failures, process constraints, downtime events, and mechanical issues affecting safety, quality, and production performance.
  • Lead project execution from scope definition and financial justification through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, and turnover to operations and maintenance.
  • Define mechanical design requirements and equipment specifications for new or modified plant systems, including performance criteria, maintainability expectations, and acceptance standards.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, process engineering, quality, and EHS to improve uptime, throughput, process stability, product quality, and long-term asset performance.
  • Independently identify, prioritize, and drive engineering projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with minimal to no direction

 

Education and Experience: Required

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of equipment or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Demonstrated ability to translate manufacturing needs into engineering requirements, equipment specifications, and validated mechanical solutions
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including production equipment, mechanical power transmission, motion and actuation systems, and structural elements
  • Proven project management skills including scope development, cost estimating, schedule management, contractor coordination, and risk management, and communication of project status.
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives and make sound engineering recommendations within plant standards, business priorities, safety requirements, and operational constraints.

 

Education and Experience: Desired

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification, PMP, or similar.
  • Strong data analysis skills, experience with excel (pivot table) and Access or similar.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems, preventive maintenance strategy, spare parts planning, reliability engineering, and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, Minitab, advanced Excel, Power BI, or other data-analysis tools used to evaluate equipment performance and production trends.

The range for this position is $83,134.00 - $114,310.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
