Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of position:
The responsibilities will consist of fundamental equipment and process improvements to support Optical Fiber Manufacturing through involvement on a few key projects and production support activities in a specific process area. Objectives for the production support and projects will be clearly laid out, and the work will be in a team environment of engineers, technicians, and operators.
Responsibilities:
- Work with support groups and productions teams to coordinate and direct equipment installations, start-up, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
- Support preventative maintenance activities.
- Provide first, second, and third level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues.
- Troubleshooting and repair of Fanuc robots and automation PLC’s.
- Provide technical training for associates.
- Recommend improvements to process/equipment and drive equipment robustness.
- Leverage sound technical fundamentals to identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment to drive equipment/process standardization and continuous improvement.

Work Schedule:
- Basic work hours are 20 to 40 hours per week.
- 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with flexibility based upon school schedule.
- Additional hours/weekends when needed to meet project objectives.

Degree Level:
- Associate’s in Applied Science (in progress or recently graduated)
Student in one of the following programs:
- Mechatronics
- Electrical Systems
- Electronics
- Mechanical
- Or similar technical field
Salary Level:
- Hourly wage $25.96
Location:
- Concord Plant in Midland, NC

The range for this position is $25.96 per hour. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
