Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of position:
We’re seeking a hands-on, solutions-driven Shift Technician to provide on-shift technical expertise for our manufacturing operations. You’ll be the go-to troubleshooter for second and third-level process and equipment issues, helping us meet production goals while driving long-term improvements.
Day to Day responsibilities:
- Production support for any throughput or safety items.
- Resolution to ongoing chronic issues that require process monitoring and data analysis to implement robust control solutions.
- Works closely with development groups to support new product development.
- Monitoring area performance, identifying equipment/process issues, and following issues through to closure.
- Simultaneously managing and troubleshooting multiple issues using established standards.
- Stay up to date with training from engineering.
- Work with a variety of groups, including operators, other support technicians, engineers, and trades, to coordinate and direct equipment startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
- As needed, develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment to production and support groups in the plant.
- Assisting engineers in the design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified production equipment.
- Provide technical influence and support during production shifts.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to meet throughput and safety targets.
- Document project outcomes and technical resolutions.
- Support preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep.
- Guide maintenance personnel in equipment repair, testing, and debugging.
- Ensure compliance with certification programs, audits, and ISO14000 standards.
- Promote and enforce a safe, clean working environment.
Required Education and Experience:
- 2-year technical degree preferred (Associates) OR high school diploma and 5+ years of equivalent technical experience.
- Able to certify to electrical standard.
- Capable of working with and troubleshooting process equipment.
- Capable of working with electrical system troubleshooting, including low and medium voltage systems, PLCs, temperature controls, and safety systems.
- Capable of working with mechanical system troubleshooting, including pneumatic controls, flow control, and material handling.
- Capable of troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with sensors, switches, motors, and actuators.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, machine specifications, and technical documentation.
- Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
Desired Education and Experience:
- 2-year technical degree and 3 years technical experience OR 7 years of equivalent technical experience.
- Some experience with PLCs and basic knowledge of PLC control systems.
- Strong team player, self-starter, and results oriented.
- Works well with and collaborates across functional areas, including development, engineering, and manufacturing.
- Some experience working cross-functionally to assess and improve manufacturing systems.
Work Schedule:
- 12-hour Dupont rotating swing shift (14 days/month with a 7-day break)
