Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

As a Glassmaking Operations Shift Supervisor, you will serve as the key point of contact for shift operations on a 24x7 schedule as it relates to safety, quality and productivity. You will provide the supervision and facilitation to a team of operators responsible for the manufacture and measurement of glass preforms and optical fiber. You will serve as a role model for safety, leading and facilitating the team to world-class, day-to-day, safety performance.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and facilitation to a team of operators responsible for the manufacturing of glass preforms and optical fiber
  • Serves as a champion for safety by demonstrating safe work practices, enforcing PPE compliance, and working to identify and address potential workplace hazards
  • Understands and applies established guidelines, procedures, and policies
  • Provides immediate supervision to subordinates to execute operations and meet production targets
  • Provides daily feedback on individual and team performance
  • Prepares and provides reports to supervisory chain
  • Coordinates daily activities of team and support organizations
  • Ensures the team executes documented operating procedures and follows established document control protocols.
  • Hold reports accountable for adherence to established procedures and set points for process control; ensures awareness and compliance to changes.
  • Ensure the protection of Corning's Intellectual Property (IP)
  • Implement and monitor training and certification plans for new employees
  • Communicates openly and honestly with employees at all levels

 

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  •  Will need to be able to work 12 hours shifts that rotate between day and nights. This will include weekends and holidays as required as our facility is 24/7.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred) with 2+ years of Manufacturing experience
  • OR Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program that can translate to future manufacturing roles (Engineering, IT, Supply Chain, etc.) + 4 or more years in a Manufacturing leadership role.

 

Required Skills:

  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule – including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to maintain positive employees relations and build trust within a team.
  • Committed to providing fair and consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Basic Computer skills (Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Data Analysis skills (experience with tools like Pivot Tables, Microsoft Access, Minitab/JMP, etc.)
  • Decision making and prioritization with ability to work on more than one objective at a time.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
  • Green Belt
  • Project Management

The range for this position is $79,166.00 - $108,854.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
