Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Is the key point of contact for shift operations on a 24 X 7 rotating schedule as it relates to safety, quality, and productivity 
  • A role model for safety – walks the talk on safety – leads and facilitates the team to world class, day-to-day, safety performance 
  • Provides supervision and facilitation to a team of technicians responsible for the manufacture of preforms/and or optical fiber 
  • Understands and applies established guidelines, procedures, and policies 
  • Provides immediate supervision to subordinates to execute operations 
  • Provides daily feedback on individual and team performance 
  • Prepares and provides reports to supervisory chain 
  • Coordinates daily activities of team and support organizations 
  • Conducts hourly/direct labor employee performance reviews and provide coaching as needed. 
  • Ensures team executes documented operating procedures and follows established document control protocols. 
  • Ensures the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property (IP). 
  • Implements and monitors training and certification plans. 
  • Holds direct reports accountable for adherence to established procedures and setpoints for process control; ensures awareness and compliance to changes. 
  • Employee Relations 
  • Develops and maintains positive employee relations 
  • Communicates openly and honestly with employees at all levels (which includes listening). 
  • Can identify, analyze, and resolve employee issues o Is adept at communicating and facilitating to effectively balance the needs of personnel 
  • Is fair and consistent in application of policies, and procedures and holds employees accountable to same.
  • Abides by all applicable labor and employment laws and directives. 
  • Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) Compliance 
  • Supervises the operations of responsible area to prevent events that could have an adverse impact on people and the environment, cause significant property loss, or result in business interruption. 
  • Understands the application of national and local safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations to plant operations.

 

Qualifications Required:

 

  • Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts degree 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office products to include Excel and Word) 
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization Desired: 
  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering or technical) 
  • 2+ years work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years previous supervisory experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience with industrial labor relations. 
  • Experienced in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles
