Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Working under the supervision of an engineer. Become familiar with fiber manufacturing equipment, documentation, and processes. Provide mechanical or electrical/controls solutions to equipment or process challenges. Analyze data and present conclusions. Troubleshoot processes and identify solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Identify process/equipment and procedural opportunities to improve performance
- Develop fundamental understanding
- Work with vendors to identify potential component upgrades
- Document and train members of engineering and operations on solutions or project findings
Required Skills:
- At a minimum, currently enrolled as a sophomore pursuing a pursuing an Undergraduate degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering field
- “Hands on” experience solving problems
- Ability to interpret mechanical or electrical schematics
- Analytical problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
- Self –driven and results-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
Desired Skills:
- Prior internship experience in manufacturing
- AutoCAD inventor / 3D design experience

The range for this position is $1,519.00 - $3,074.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
