Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Support global optical fiber plants in enhancing supplier quality, from supplier selection through to maintenance and performance improvement. Managing raw material specifications, monitoring quality performance, and driving improvements through strategic projects.  Leading the globalization of material specification for fiber operations, replicating, and standardizing best practices.  Ensure that quality issues are addressed through improvement projects, to evaluate the impact of changes on product attributes, and to facilitate the onboarding of new suppliers or products for cost reduction.  Key responsibilities include identifying improvement initiatives, leading the development and execution of material or process improvement projects at suppliers, and leveraging knowledge of material specifications to introduce alternative material technologies.  Must be able to work across various functional groups and maintain supplier COA, PPAP, quality performance audits, and relevant supplier quality systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the globalization of materials specification for fiber operations. Replicate, implement and standardize best-in-class processes for Fiber operations.
  • Ensure quality issues resulting from material performance are addressed through improvement projects and material change. Quality architecture should be updated as necessary.
  • Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures.
  • Work with Div. Eng and Plants onboarding new supplier/products for cost reduction and capacity increase following PPAP/CPEA processes.
  • Monitor Coating Supply COA values looking for trends or shift in performance.
  • Main contact with coating supplier including yearly quality audit of manufacturing procedures.
  • Coordinate yearly verification on COA tests procedures with manufacturers.
  • Drives early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues, assigns ownership, and ensures implementation of actions to ensure improvement.
  • Facilitate efforts in understanding processes capability and product quality architecture.
  • Work with Product Engineering to ensure product and process qualification.
  • Lead/assist in authoring plant’s material improvement qualification plans (globally).
  • Identify key initiatives for regional improvement and ascertain how support can be provided to assist regions in progressing toward achieving them.
  • Lead/assist in developing and executing material/process improvement and cost reduction projects to improve Fiber making efficiency and cost while ensuring retention of quality,
  • Leverage material specification knowledge to introduce alternate material technology to plant production.
  • Facilitate and leverage available resource skill sets from around the world, including Technology, Quality, and Division Engineering groups.
  • Ability to work across various functional groups on a daily basis to accomplish goals.
  • Monitor and maintain supplier COA, PPAP, Supplier quality performance audits and relevant supplier quality systems.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Chemical, Ceramic, or Materials
  • Greater than 5 years’ experience in a related field
  • Good data collection and analysis skills; basic understanding of statistics and control charts
  • Experience with MS-office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SharePoint
  • Effective in Project Management
  • Cross functionality experience working globally with groups
  • Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause (e.g., KT)
  • Familiarity with Quality Systems, audits, TL and ISO Certifications or other types of Quality certifications

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience

The range for this position is  $91,633.00   -  $125,996.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
