Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
🎯 Role Purpose
Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for driving operational excellence? Corning is seeking a Manufacturing Shift Supervisor to oversee front-line supervisors and hourly associates at our Concord, NC facility. This role is pivotal in ensuring safety, quality, cost efficiency, delivery performance, and team morale. You’ll lead a high-performing team, collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and maintenance, and champion continuous improvement across the operation.
🔧 Key Responsibilities

Production Performance: Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing metrics. Identify bottlenecks, optimize staffing, and maintain efficient queue levels.

Labor Management: Control overtime spend, balance cost vs. staffing needs, and drive labor efficiency through cross-training.

Planning & Execution: Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to meet production goals and customer delivery metrics (OTM & OTP).

Change Leadership: Manage product/process changeovers, equipment upgrades, and engineering experiments while maintaining production targets.

Operational Readiness: Support new product introductions and major equipment upgrades with a focus on readiness and execution.

Continuous Improvement: Partner with Lean teams to improve bottleneck processes and enhance OEE through setup time reduction and downtime mitigation.

Team Leadership: Supervise direct and indirect reports, drive accountability through scorecards, and foster a culture of safety and quality.

Talent Development: Implement Corning’s talent programs to attract, develop, and retain top manufacturing talent.
🎓 Required Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline.

Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience with progressive leadership roles.

Proven ability to lead teams, resolve conflicts, and drive performance.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills under pressure.

Experience managing both salaried and hourly employees.

Demonstrated success in improving safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale metrics.

MBA or advanced technical graduate degree.

Six Sigma Green Belt certification or Lean manufacturing expertise.

Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

The range for this position is $79,166.00 - $108,854.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
