Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
A key member of the Supply Chain leadership team, the Shipping Supervisor maintains a safe and productive warehouse by leading and training employees in all aspects in the Shipping / Warehouse Administration function. Coach, guide, and develop team members in setting targets and to manage performance efficiently and continuously improve key skills, keep the team challenged, while emphasizing a learning orientation. Ensure collaboration, teamwork, and actively engages with team and stakeholders regularly. Assesses department processes and procedures and strives to continually improve each functional area. Develops, implements, and monitors department goals. Resolve problems utilizing acquired knowledge and analytical capabilities.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Acts as a leader for safety in the department and ensures a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Leads daily huddles, participates in weekly management safety walks, and quarterly safety team meetings.
- Reports, investigates, and tracks all safety incidents and corrective actions to closure.
- Provides leadership and management in the overall operation of a supply chain section.
- Directly or indirectly supervises all section personnel in the processing and shipment of all preform and fiber shipments from the plant in a 24/7 environment.
- Directly or indirectly supervises Wallace Warehouse personnel in the filling of coating kegs.
- Manages ATA for 8 and 12hr employees as well as approves time for contractors.
- Utilizes models to determine personnel levels and maintains adequate staffing on all shifts. Posts 8 and 12hr OT on a weekly basis as necessary.
- Provides employees with concise and accurate documentation and communication of variances in process, procedures, or shipping priority, along with corrective action taken on a daily basis.
- Resolves personnel issues at the first level whenever possible, utilizes the progressive discipline process as appropriate, and works with HR for discipline issues above the first level (as necessary).
- Coordinates and participates in the training of new employees/contractors, conduct refresher training with experienced employees, and review/maintain training materials.
- Responsible for meeting quality specifications and maintaining the systems and actions necessary to ensure compliance with department certification programs, quality System Audit Program, and ISO registration.
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding customer service objectives including: error free shipments and ship-date compliance via the tracking of missed requests and missed promises.
- Coordinates with A&T/Eng on the scheduling of all PM’s and related production equipment downtime.
- Track equipment issues and lead initiatives on process improvements.
- Manages finished goods packaging inventories (crates and boxes) and writes replenishment packaging PO’s for department.
- Maintains and enforces all housekeeping and safety regulations, including the handling of hazardous materials, maintenance of housekeeping standards, and effective WPO of the area.
- Prepares and submits monthly period reports that accurately summarize performance for the section and tracks related metrics. Oversee budget, approves expenditures, and manages operation within budget.
- Implement appropriate procedures for daily production control.
- Support new process/product development to meet market needs.
- Provide operational inputs for equipment/process design.
- Implement appropriate procedures for daily production control.

Required Qualifications:
- B.S degree from an accredited college/university or 5+ years of industry experience.
- Degree in supply chain preferred
- 2+ years of successful and proven supervisory, team leader and/or department leadership experience in a supply chain, shipping, or production manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated supply chain experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement initiatives to improve performance and/or reduce operating costs.
- Knowledge and understanding of warehousing and inventory management practices
- Strong decision making and prioritization skills
- Technical background and related in-plant experience.
- People management skills including coaching and teambuilding, ability to develop and maintain a high performing work team, conflict resolution
- Strong communication skills (within team, within plant, external to plant)
- Ability to work as a constructive, contributing member of Supply Chain team
- Professional attitude and behavior.
- Demonstrate production adaptability and flexibility to market changes.
Desired Qualifications:.
- Has participated or led a cross-functional team in process/department responsible to deliver key improvement initiative or cost reduction program.
- Certified Green Belt or demonstrated Lean capabilities.
- Experience communicating with external parties on behalf of Corning (vendors, customers)
- APICS or other supply chain certification preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- Peoplesoft or SAP experience preferred.

The range for this position is $75,761.00 - $104,172.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
