Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Senior Fibermaking Capabilities Supervisor


Location: Concord, NC | Travel: ~15–20% (domestic, some international)

 

About the Role


The Senior Fibermaking Capabilities Supervisor is a key technical and people leader within OFC Division Engineering. This role drives process innovation, manufacturing readiness, and capability development across multiple global fiber sites. You’ll partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to deliver robust processes, successful scale-up, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and develop the Division Engineering Fibermaking Capabilities team
  • Manage complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects from development through manufacturing scale-up
  • Drive cost reduction, capacity, and capability improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical leadership and consultation to global manufacturing sites
  • Champion global process standardization and control
  • Apply structured problem-solving (DMAIC, Six Sigma, MEE) to resolve chronic issues
  • Support evaluation and global deployment of new technologies
  • Communicate effectively with site leaders and executive management

 

Qualifications

 

  • BS in Materials or Ceramic, Mechanical Chemical or Electrical Engineering. (MS preferred.)
  • Manufacturing industry experience
  • 6+ years of industry experience
  • 2+ supervisory experience
  • Structured problem solving tools (e.g. DMAIC, MEE, Six Sigma) and has used statistical approaches in data analysis and decision making
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and motivate teams in a global environment
  • Proficient in Excel; strong statistical and analytical capability

 

Desired

 

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt
  • Experience leading global or cross-cultural teams
  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting
  • Experience with Minitab, JMP, or similar tools
  • MBA a plus

  • Full-time, 40+ hours/week (occasional weekends as needed)

The range for this position is $146,918.00 - $202,013.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
