Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose:
Provides disciplined project leadership and subject matter expertise that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality and service) and/or advances the innovation process. Provides solutions for increased process yields, increased utilization, decreased costs, and improvements to product quality by planning, organizing, and implementing projects. Is a leader in obtaining fundamental process understanding.
Designs and analyses products, processes and/or equipment for continuous improvement. Protects intellectual property through proper documentation.
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of process and equipment issues.
- Provides clearly articulated directions to technicians / engineers, coaches junior engineers, and guidance to maintenance personnel.
- Provides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new product, process, cost reduction and capacity improvement initiatives.
- Leads installation, debugging, initial operation, and scale-up of new equipment, processes, and systems.
- Identifies, justifies, and implements cost reduction, capacity enhancement, capital equipment and other improvement initiatives.
- Provide engineering level support for global manufacturing operations.
Travel Requirements:
- 25% domestic and some international.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- 8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week.
Required Education:
- BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Materials, Mechanical, Chemical
Required Years and Area of Experience:
- Min 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment.
Required Skills:
- Have used scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively
- Track record of delivering results
- Coaching and developing engineers & technicians
- Experience in project leadership & problem solving techniques (for ex: DMAIC, KT, DOE, etc)
- Proficient with data analysis tools, techniques, software (for ex: PI, Minitab, JMP, SAS, etc)
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced global environment
- Ability to effectively communicate across multiple business functions globally and leadership levels
- Exercises sound judgment when faced with uncertain requirements
- Demonstrates technical curiosity by asking questions and seeking deeper understanding of new technology or in areas of technical gaps
Desired Experiences/Education:
- Masters of Science (Engineering or Applied Science)
- Global manufacturing and engineering experiences
- Formal project management certification
- Financial management knowledge

The range for this position is $95,931.00 - $131,906.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
