Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

The purpose of this position is:

  • Performs a variety of technical duties and activities under general supervision to support specific equipment and systems within the assigned department within the allotted time.  Responsible for the daily operation, basic maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and basic reporting requirements of the assigned equipment and systems. Works on either a day or rotating shift schedule.

This position includes significant duties such as:          

  • Uses working knowledge of how machines and tools operate, including an ability to determine how machine parts relate to other components within an electro/mechanical system.
  • Uses working knowledge of basic electrical principles (e.g. how electricity is produced; how machines are powered by electricity), and applies this knowledge to the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Updates Standard Operating Procedures and provides inputs to the Machine Specifications. 
  • Works around/with Energized Electrical Systems, High Pressure Systems, Vacuum Systems and Industrial Rotational Equipment (Pumps, Motors and Fan Systems), and understands the safe working procedures and standards associated with this work.
  • Uses Personal and Networked Computer Systems that support job duties.
  • Certified and operates equipment within department to support Production.
  • Uses existing documentation to complete standard equipment related tasks, such as preventive maintenance and troubleshooting through Level 2.
  • Trains new personnel on established procedures.
  • Accesses necessary data to monitor performance of equipment responsibilities within department and recognizes when troubleshooting is required.
  • Performs basic component replacements; mechanical and/or electrical.
  • Calibrates, troubleshoots and/or refurbishes devices as detailed in provided documentation.
  • Works as team member on equipment projects to reduce costs, downtime, and/or defects and increase yields.
  • Helps to determine methods or procedures.
  • Uses plant systems, such as PIMs documents, Stores Look-up, Dashboards, SharePoint, and Factory Works.

Working Conditions:

  • Work area varies dependent on assignment. 
  • For most assignments, work occurs within a clean manufacturing environment, with adequate workspace and lighting. 
  • Some work areas require hearing protection. 
  • Some work areas require working at heights of up to 20 feet with proper safety equipment
  • Some work areas require working in spaces with elevated temperatures
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50+ pounds.
  • Stands, sits, bends and/or kneels for extended periods of time during a given work shift.
  • Specific safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses, lab coats) is required in all plant areas. 

Work Schedule:

  • This position follows the DuPont Schedule, which is a rotating schedule between days and nights.
  • Shifts will be 12 hours long and will cover weekdays, weekends, and some holidays
  • Mandatory overtime may be required
  • The schedule allows for up to 7 days off in a row per month and up to 14 days off total per month

Education:

  • 2-year technical degree or High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of pertinent technical/military experience.

Experience: 

  • Years of experience vary based on education.  Experienced in the operation and maintenance of simple and complex hand and power tools.   Must have sufficient equipment and process knowledge to be certified to operate equipment within department to support Production.
