The Global Process Owner for Tax is responsible for leading the creation of the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the process and technology related to non-income tax matters and for supporting the income tax team on technology matters. In addition to being a member of the Process Strategy organization, this individual will also be responsible for directly supporting the Director of Tax Compliance, and key stakeholders within the tax organization. This person must be open minded, process and technology oriented, and able to speak the business language as we work through our continuing Finance and technology transformations. It will be critical the person also work well in a cross functional, enterprise process oriented organization.

Scope of Position:

  • Create and sustain the non-income tax process and technology strategy, roadmap and action plan.
  • Work with fellow Global Process Owners, the tax department, and our businesses to introduce tools and techniques to further the capabilities in tax transacting, compliance, analytics and reporting.
  • Actively engage to identify process and technology leverage and improvement opportunities in tax and related financial processes.
  • Active portfolio management including project sponsorship, initial chartering, resource planning, budgeting, sponsor and executive committee reviews, stakeholder engagement, change agency and project closure.
  • Engage with Corning finance and business leadership (up through the executive level) in a multi-national/multi-cultural environment to gain stakeholder alignment and present project status, findings, and results.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Research leading practices in the use of systems, tools and processes to drive efficient and effective tax processes and build them into the Finance process and technology roadmap
  • Proactively identify, evaluate and implement tax process automation and improvement opportunities, for Tax Management
  • Regular involvement with the non-income tax compliance, including supporting the tax department on use of software applications
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to seek inputs on requirements and to socialize status/influence results throughout project lifecycle
  • Sponsor and promote a portfolio for tax process and technology investments coordinated across the other end to end portfolios and the business priorities assuring alignment with Corp agenda.
  • Provide tax process and technology subject matter expertise to support the delivery of projects
  • Refine and prioritize tasks on the process and technology roadmap
  • Escalate issues as appropriate to ensure timely and effective resolution
  • Ensure projects are delivered within timeline, budget and deliverables are met.

Travel Requirements:

  • 25% domestic/international travel possible.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Tax, other financial discipline and/or Computer Science is required.
  • CPA or equivalent, and/or other financial certification and/or advanced degree (JD or MST) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in tax with system support responsibilities or 5 years tax technology experience.
  • Experience administering and configuring non-income tax solutions. Vertex preferred.
  • Experience with S/4 HANA is a plus
  • Corporate tax compliance and/or tax reporting (including international, federal and state) is a plus.
  • Experience in centralizing VAT compliance is a plus.
  • Proficiency in implementing and maintaining tax technology products, such as One Source tax products for tax return preparation, tax accounting, state apportionment etc. is a plus
  • Proven ability to identify tax process automation opportunities and provide technology solutions.
  • Knowledgeable in general corporate tax framework and ASC740 income tax accounting

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in international VAT systems and reporting
  • Practical or academic experience in standard process analysis tools, process mapping and flow chart diagramming (preferred)
