Role Purpose

With general guidelines and/or under supervision, is able to propose, plan, coordinate, and control small projects involving technical systems or under supervision, participate in larger more complex projects. Can provide technical and non-technical guidance (oversight) to ensure the systems are technically and economically successful. Assists in development of solutions and resolving complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead projects involving relocations, modifications, alterations, or manufacturing processes, ensuring requirements are defined with customers.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedules, cost estimates, acceptance criteria, and receivership requirements.
  • Form and lead sub-teams with Operating Division, plant personnel, and management to achieve results, while contributing as an effective team member on broader initiatives.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership by serving as a functional expert in your discipline and broadening your exposure to other engineering fields.
  • Actively participate in project meetings, document key issues, decisions, and action items, and engage in all phases of project execution: initiation, planning, implementation, control, and close-out.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress to managers and functional leadership, ensuring alignment with goals and successful execution.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, sharing expertise and seeking guidance to better understand customer processes.
  • Share knowledge to drive continuous improvement and enhance organizational efficiency and team performance.
  • Advocate for safety within your area of responsibility, serving as a role model in meeting safety standards.
  • Participate in project critiques upon completion, sharing key learnings with broader teams and recognizing contributions of sub-team members.
  • Maintain accountability to project managers for achieving results and meeting project goals.
  • Contribute to impactful projects with significant financial and strategic importance to the corporation.
  • Adapt effectively to global project environments, leveraging experience working across diverse cultures to collaborate and drive success. 

Experiences/Education - Required

  • B.S. Engineering or equivalent technical degree
  • Progressive responsibilities in global technical and project leadership
  • Fully knowledgeable of and capable in, appropriate engineering competency's state of the art
  • Ability to successfully lead a matrixed project team and deliver documented scope to customer on time and budget
  • Self starter who is able to satisfy their objectives and timelines with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a team player within a matrix organization. Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to influence versus control others. Can comfortably operate in the "gray" areas
  • Sound problem solving and decision making processes and skills. Proficient in quality tools including Kepner - Tregoe, Performance Excellence, Project Management tools, etc
  • Computer/Information Technology Skills Desired. Basics - MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of MS Project or other Project scheduling tools
  • Results oriented with a high commitment level
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the project team organization. Must be an effective communicator, able to deliver written and verbal messages
  • Conflict management - as a team player, seeks win - win solutions. Calms down and resolves problems vs. escalating

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • B.S. Engineering or equivalent technical degree
  • Experience in multiple businesses or technical organizations
  • Project Team focused on single technical discipline
  • Prior project or work team experience
  • Possesses network with Corning global technical community and key external suppliers / partners
  • External recognition such as Green / Yellow / Black Belt, Lean, PMI, Professional Engineering or member of a Technical society
  • Future Project Management Certification program may apply

The range for this position is $65,399.00 - $89,924.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
