Role Purpose
The individual will join Corning’s Ceramic Forming Directorate as a ceramic processing summer intern. As a Ceramic Processing Intern, you will assist in providing technical insight, designing, and executing experiments to develop a fundamental understanding of ceramic forming processes. This internship primarily focuses on supporting new process technologies being researched by Corning for products such as energy materials, battery materials, honeycomb filters, and other emerging ceramic composites.
We are looking for a motivated individual with a keen interest in ceramic processing, a willingness to learn and grow, and strong interpersonal skills to work with interdisciplinary teams. Ideal candidates will possess effective communication and presentation skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Some exposure to technical research, data analysis, and hands-on experimentation is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment while adhering to Corning’s Values.
- Support the development or optimization of processes to produce inorganic ceramic green bodies using techniques such as tape casting, gel casting, slip casting, powder processing, forming, and sintering.
- Help evaluate and refine organic binder formulations and their characteristics to enhance ceramic green body production processes.
- Participate in process R&D activities, including experimental planning, execution, data collection, and analysis.
- Collaborate with development, engineering, and operational teams to share findings, assist in transferring process knowledge, and support ongoing projects.

Experiences/Education - Required
- College student pursuing B.S or Ph. D in Material Science and Engineering, Ceramic Science and Engineering, Chemistry or similar discipline.
- Completion of relevant coursework in ceramic material or ceramic processing is required.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and safety protocols
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; meticulous and deep thinking.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later.

Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with ceramic forming techniques such as tape casting, gel casting, slip casting, powder processing.
- Experience with ceramic firing and sintering techniques.
- Exposure to basic characterization methods for ceramic material such as TGA, DSC, XPS, SEM, etc.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
