Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support projects across Corning’s various businesses, including S&T and EIG, and across innovation stages
  • Improve existing processes or products; design/develop new processes aimed at scale-up to manufacturing using Corning tools and best practices
  • Perform experimental and/or theoretical studies to gain fundamental understanding of processes and product-process interactions
  • Analyze data and present results to project teams and other internal stakeholders
  • Measure and communicate performance against established objectives and schedules
  • Document work in internal reports and invention disclosures


Travel Requirements:

  • 0 to 50% depending on project
  • International travel may be required, depending on project


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering
  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, 2+ years of industrial experience a plus; or
  • M.S. with 5+ years of industrial experience


Required Skills:

  • Ability to apply chemical engineering and general engineering principles in solving complex problems
  • Strong experiment design and data analysis skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in both R&D and manufacturing environments
  • Flexibility to work with multiple businesses within Corning
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team player
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills


Desired Skills:

  • Process scale-up and/or manufacturing experience
  • Ability to scope, plan and lead work streams within a larger project/program
  • Ability to coach or advise less experienced engineers
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in early stage projects
  • Proficiency with software tools (AspenPlus, ChemCad, COMSOL, JMP, Minitab, Matlab, etc.) is a plus
