This is an entry level position for a research scientist focusing on state-of-the-art coatings applied to 3D glass surfaces in ambient environment. The coatings must be rugged, maintain optical appearance, and work in a variety of challenging environments. The candidate will join a materials team fluent in organic and inorganic coatings. This focus is in the develop a coating that meets stringent requirements as well as develop all phases of a coating for transfer into a manufacturing environment. Interaction with the engineering and manufacturing teams will increase at the latter end of the project during transfer.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • The position is for a coating development scientist well versed in the chemistry of both organometallic and organic polymer materials.
  • The position typical activities include (but are not limited to):
    • Work independently but also often with team members in research to make coatings with the desired properties.
    • Understand the leading edges of the technology envelope and be able to identify and generate intellectual property of coatings under development.
    • Experiment development and execution for optimization of coating composition to meet a variety of coating physical property requirements.
    • Develop experiments that demonstrate the design objectives of the coating.
    • Develop experiments that will help define new requirements for the coating both internal (process definition) and external (customer facing).
    • Work with both research chemists and process engineers modify the coating or to develop the coating application method into a manufacturing process.
    • Transfer development materials and processes to engineering and manufacturing.

Education & Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science/Engineering. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated work in at least 1-3 years of experience in coatings development on oxide surfaces.
