Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position:
Corning Incorporated develops innovative technologies that help solve some of the world's toughest challenges. Within Corning Environmental Technologies, we design and test advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems that help our customers meet increasingly stringent global emissions regulations. We are seeking a motivated Test Cell Controls Engineer to join a fast-paced, hands-on engine and laboratory testing environment. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers,or those with a few years of experience who want to build real-world controls expertise, work with cutting-edge equipment, and see their solutions deployed in live test systems.
Position Overview:
This role is responsible for the design, development, validation, and deployment of control solutions used in exhaust aftertreatment test systems. The engineer will work with control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and high-level languages such as C#. Corning uses a wide variety of equipment and software from industry leaders such as AVL, Horiba, TSI, OMRON, Rockwell, and others to instrument and control dyno test cells and lab gas flow test benches.
Day to Day Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, and deploy control and measurement systems for engine test cells, laboratory benches, and test vehicles
- Program and support PLC-based control systems and integrate field instrumentation
- Develop control logic and applications using C#, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
- Implement and tune PID and advanced control strategies for thermal, flow, and emissions systems
- Create intuitive HMIs and data visualization tools for operators and engineers
- Communicate with instruments and ECUs using CAN, CCP, XCP, and TCP/UDP protocols
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers to solve complex system-level problems
- Analyze test data to ensure accuracy, robustness, and repeatability of results
- Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of test systems

- Hardware & systems: Electrical schematics, panel layouts, and system commissioning
Travel Requirements:
This role is primarily based in Corning, NY, with up to 10% travel, mainly within North America. The position typically involves 40+ hours per week with flexibility based on test schedules.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (required). Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience with controls, automation, or test systems is strongly valued.
Required Skills:
- Strong fundamentals in electrical and controls engineering (at least 1 year hands on)
- Exposure to PLCs, automation software, or embedded/control programming
- Understanding of control concepts such as PID, feed-forward, or model-based control
- Curiosity, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for hands-on engineering work
- Ability to troubleshoot systematically and think critically
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Desired Skills:
- Experience with real-time systems or distributed I/O
- Exposure to engine testing, emissions measurement, or laboratory environments
- Basic project leadership or coordination experience
Soft Skills:

The range for this position is $88,522.00 - $121,718.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
